First Needle of the New Year

JanScarfI started this in November of last year, but it’ll be the first knitting project I finish in 2014. It’s a variegated yarn, which makes its own pattern. Or, you know, not.

I cast on 27 stitches, knit five rows, then do each row k1, p1. Every so often, just at random, I do a row of straight knit to break things up.I’ll do five rows of knit at the end, too.

I don’t know how long it’ll end up being, since I only have one skein. If it isn’t long enough to be a scarf, it’ll make a nice collar. I like those.

Our microwave died at the end of 2013, so we began the new year by doing our least favorite thing: consumer spending. We got one on sale, smaller than the last one, and with a timer, which the last one didn’t have. Isn’t this a fascinating post? You’d think it was a Facebook Status Update.

ANYWAY, happy 2014.

Hi. I, too, suffered the loss of a microwave last year. =Sniffle= But then I got a shiny new one!

That scarf is so beautiful! It’s the one Tom Baker would’ve worn if he’d had the choice.

Heh! 2013 must’ve been a bad year for microwaves. This one has a computer brain and an operating manual. I kind of miss the ones with a timer knob and an on/off switch. You know, cook it or don’t. DEAR GOD, I’m old.

I know! I researched the beast before I bought at Big Lot’s, and the tricks these babies can perform are better than a circus!

Heh! This one can supposedly be programmed to turn on at a certain time and cook for a given length and at a given power. I need a physicist butler to operate it for me.
