Lorinda Jones is a performer, composer, music therapist, and Nice Person. Our town’s Presbyterian church used to have a coffee house every month, with the proceeds benefiting the Community Services, and Lorinda Jones always came for the Christmas one. Charlie and I love her work, and we think she’s one of the most soft-spoken, gentle-hearted people we’ve ever met.
We have all of her CDs, alas. We’d get more if she’d produce more. NO SHADOWS is my absolute favorite. I love it so much, I have my own copy of it, so I can carry it in my car and not take it away from Charlie when he wants to listen to it.
Hop over to CD Baby and listen to MP3 samples of some of the songs, and see if you don’t think they’re worth a buy. 🙂 Harvest Home is my favorite. The sample doesn’t do it justice.
A WRITING PROMPT FOR YOU: Invent a musical instrument for a character to play. Do they play it well or poorly? How do they THINK they play it?

April 11, 2014 at 9:32amYour prompt today is a hoot. Invent a musical instrument? I can’t help but think about Uhura playing the Vulcan lyre.

April 11, 2014 at 10:11amKatya makes enough weird noises to qualify as a musical instrument, but I can’t figure out how to tune her.

April 11, 2014 at 12:22pmShe sure is! And she can play just about any stringed instrument she puts her hand to.

April 11, 2014 at 12:26pmNice post, Marian. Makes me wonder if a music talent might be better to have than writing. What do you think? Of course, it would be nice to have both, like some folks:)

April 12, 2014 at 1:23amBecause my daughter is a violinist, I often have a character playing a fiddle, sometimes not well, but always with feeling. Lorinda Jones’ music on CD Baby is a joy!

April 15, 2014 at 10:49pmI always wished I could play the piano and sing. Never got the chance with the piano and when I sing, people leave the room. Nice ideas you have though.

April 16, 2014 at 7:49amI played the piano for years (very poorly), but now I can’t even read music, other than to know if the note goes up from the previous one or down. I sing beautifully — when I’m alone, or inside my head. Out loud in public, not so much. My husband was lamenting that nobody sings around the house nowadays. I said, “I sing around the house all the time!” He, in honest surprise said, “That’s singing?”
