“…You and I might think of this crowd as so many slugs in sequins, but there’s not one kid who spit on me in high school who could pay money to wash any of these people’s feet.”
“So you want to be one of them, so you can look down on people, too.”
“That’s right.”
“Don’t kid me, Connie. You look down on people now. I bet you always have.”
“Jackie, Jackie, what’s the good of being a Superior Person if nobody knows it or admits it? I want there to be no question. I want there to be no doubt. I want the people whose dogs I used to walk to see my picture in the paper, hobnobbing with people who wouldn’t let them carry the Pooper Scooper. I want to be In, Jackie. Not just run with them; BE one of them. I want to be THE One of them. I want somebody to name a perfume after me.”
“There are other nuts to crack, you know, if it’s a challenge you want. Not just anybody can be a nun, either. Why don’t you join a convent?”
What a funny guy.
