Doing Time With Valentino #ThrowbackThursday

Back in the dear dead days of the late 60s – early 70s, nostalgia was all the rage. Insofar as I remember.

It was a craze that has stood me in good stead while watching Jeopardy, as I know many things from the times of long ago, picked up and squirreled away in the hidden cupboards of my Miss Havisham‘s house of memory.

One thing I picked up during those years, I have still.RudolphWatchThis is a watch. It was originally a wristwatch, believe it or not, although it’s HUGE. It completely fills my palm. The bits that held it to the watchband long ago gave up the ghost, and now I wear it on a chain around my neck. I still can’t tell time on it very well, something that seems more important now than it did in the 60s/70s.

The handsome fellow depicted is Rudolph Valentino as The Sheik. ~swoon~ What a dreamboat! This watch makes me very happy, and brings back floods and waves of memories, including the smell of patchouli incense and the queasy feeling black light always gave me.

Oh, those dear days of promise! I do miss them. We were so innocent, and we thought we were so naughty. And simultaneously virtuous, you know. Our naughtiness was a higher virtue than our parents’ virtue, you know. Uh-huh.

A WRITING PROMPT FOR YOU: What was your main character’s attitude toward the generation just before and the generation before that? Both the same, or positive for one and negative for another or what?

I haven’t herd the word ‘dreamboat’ in a long time. I don’t think I ever heard it directed toward me. That is a serious watch.

Oh, we never tell a guy directly he’s a dreamboat; we tell each other. “That Dan Antion — he’s so dreamy!” ~giggle~ Like that, see?

I loved that watch. That’s why its band fell off: I wore it every day, all the time. Had a big round tanless blotch and strip on my wrist during the summer. Fortunately, it only showed at night when I took the watch off, and nobody could see it at night so who cared?

    Ahh, nostalgia!

So many memories … but I’ll spare you.

    Except:
I still get to see MY dreamboat. Illya Kuryakin. David McCallum.
He’s on NCIS every week. Not quite so young anymore, but then neither am I.
He is, however, still pretty dreamy. Same hair, by Ghod, and those blue blue eyes, and that –dreamy– voice. Yes. ANd he is still pretty spry. I mean, actually, he is VERY spry. I wish my knees were half as good as his obviously are. Illya was always very kinetic, and Ducky, when the opportunity arise, darts around all over the place. GRIN.

He can out-dart Mistah Palmeh. ~grin~

I loved the episode that flashed back to Ducky’s youth, where the actor who played Young Ducky looked and dressed SO MUCH like the young Ilya, and the actor who played Young Ducky’s rat’s-ass friend looked and dressed SO MUCH like young Napoleon Solo!

I think of David McCallum and his blue, blue eyes every time I look at a winter sky. ~sigh~

Love your writing prompt but I am not an author, so no characters written. But I bet I could convince a relative to pipe up some ‘stuff’ lol
Visiting on the Road Trip. I’ll be back 🙂
