If we were having a beer, it would quite likely be at The Irish Rover in Louisville, Kentucky. My pal Jane and I usually eat there when we have our monthly Girls’ Day Out. Not always, but usually.
They have Irish pub food, mostly. Fish and chips, Scotch eggs, cottage pie, bubble and squeak, Guinness beef stew, and bangers and mash. Also: cheeses, cordon bleu fritters, salmon, club sandwich…. Great menu!
And the beer…. Oh, glory, the beer! We’re very fond of Celtic Craic, and find it appropriate that Craic is pronounced “crack”. It’s by the New Albanian Brewing Company, in New Albany, Indiana. It’s out of season now, alas, although I like for beers to go in and out of season, so I can try new ones. Today, Jane asked for a taste of New Albanian’s … I don’t even remember the name, but it was some kind of seasonal ale aged in whiskey barrels, and it was SO GOOD, I was sorry I had already ordered a Guinness. THAT’S how good it was. I hope they still have it when we meet in November.
The Rover building is a delight. Here’s a picture of the side, with the door’s awning poking out from the center to the left.
The bicycle and the window with the flower pots are both painted on, shadows and all.
So, yes, definitely one of my favorite places.

The beer and the food sound wonderful, but the best part is that you go there with a friend. Bars are clearly meant to support friendships.
