David’s Octopus Whale Hippo Goats! #FridayRecommends

Friday RecommendsOh my dear ghod the internet! THE INTERNET!!

Okay, Twitter friends Stacy Juba, author of Sink or Swim and all kinds other good books, and Wendy Cartmell, author of the Sgt. Major Crane crime novels, both retweeted a post from David L. Atkinson, so I hopped over to look at his blog.

SO GLAD I DID! David L. Atkinson is a writer of novels and poetry, and a cooker of food. Dan Antion would love his recipes: they are meatalicious! I love this post about writing he did yesterday, too.

Then, on Facebook, I saw the news about the octopus who did a successful prison break and returned himself to the ocean. Go, Inky!

That lead me to a post that says scientists have determined that Moby Dick could totally have wrecked a ship. Of course he could! Would Herman Melville lie?

So then somebody had to say that whales are related to goats. They are. Also: hippos. And, of course, it’s like, DUH. Hello? Mammals? But, somehow, I have less trouble imaging whales being related to humans than to goats, hippos, cows, and horses. Especially, for some reason, goats.

And THE-E-EN I was led, in inevitable doomed procession, to Whales In Space, specifically the Goat page. Whales In Space: “Exploring the weirdness of aliens, UFOs, exopolitics, cryptozoology, sasquatchploitation, other paranormal fortean phenomenon, and ultraterrestrial activities.” I can tell this is going to be one of my favorites.

A WRITING PROMPT FOR YOU: Write something that includes both a whale and a goat. Extra points if there’s also a UFO and/or a sasquatch.

I’ll have you know that my wife made a delicious vegan dinner the other night and I really liked it. That’s probably why I said it was delicious. You probably got that. I still like meat, (she made a pork tenderloin the next day, but I had some leftover vegan stuff on the side) but I thought I would just paint the full picture here. Now, where’s the URL for David’s page again?

Ha ha – I just almost snorted my Mike’s Hard Lemonade out my nose. No, unlikely, she doesn’t even post or comment on my site. It was just a mix of veggies and spices fried in coconut oil (I’m guessing, but with her, coconut is a good guess. I think cabbage, shredded-carrots, onions, spinach and a couple other things on top of some rice pilaffy stuff.

I pretty much didn’t understand a word that came after octopus prison break… but wow. Looks like the Interwebz has had quite a week, and dragged you along in all its chortling, glorified madness.
