CoryDoors — Indian Creek Market #ThursdayDoors

First, it’s the beginning of the month, so there’s a new Hot Flash on my Hot Flashes page. Go on and read it and come back. I’ll wait.

Okay. Thursday Doors, in case you don’t know, is the brainchild of photographer extraordinaire Norm Frampton. Go to his page, look at his wonderful posts, click on the blue frog link at the bottom, and find links to other Thursday Doors posts from around the world.

A relatively new business in Corydon, Indiana is the Indian Creek Market. Here’s the facade of the building, which is beautiful stone.

Here’s the door, itself. It absolutely kills me. The side panels are chalkboard, and every day they post their specials and their soup-of-the-day on them. I don’t know why that makes me so absurdly happy, but it does, and I take my absurd happiness anywhere I can find it.

Indian Creek, by the way, is a creek that runs through and around Corydon. There are two branches: Indian Creek and Little Indian Creek, and the tiny offshoot, Brush Heap Creek, which runs near our house, parallel to Big Indian Road.

I suspect there may have been Indians in the area at some point.

Some enterprising and civic-minded folk have been making walking trails along the creek, kind of like San Antonio’s Riverwalk only totally not. Here’s their website, and below is a map of the trails.

About

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.

I quite like the chalkboards as well. Looks like a great place to spend some time (and money.)

They have a lot of gluten-free stuff for my gluten-intolerant buds, and a deli case where you can have them build a sandwich to order. All they need to be perfect is Dr.Brown’s Cel-Ray tonic.

I Like the contrast of the chalk boards and the decidedly old-school method of communication. Great doors!

Gotta love places that put their menu up on chalkboards. You know that what you’re being served is being made fresh that day and that it’s coming from someone’s creativity, not from a cookie-cutter/assembly line.

Exactly. They get their meats and cheeses and pasta from Amish in the region. Way good.

I’m with you on the absurd happiness, it’s somehow a stately but cheerful place, which is no small feat! 🙂

I like happy people who don’t know why they’re happy:)
A door with a chalkboard on it, is a great idea, especially for a list person like I:)
Your writing prompt makes me smile, because my own nature walk is very short. I peek around the my front door, take a few deep breaths (to see how cold it is today), and then shut the door again. (of course, this is for a person who lives surrounded by forest).
Always love my visits here, because you’re such a positive and creative person (I meant that!)

Your nature walk sounds like mine, Jesh — and I live in the woods! I do walk up the drive to my Mom’s, and I do walk 1000 yards to the mailbox (sometimes!). The only time I penetrate the woodland is in the spring, when I hunt mushrooms.

The old time chalkboards and red trim on gorgeous stone. Yeah, that’s pretty neat. Plus: SOUP!
    I’d be happy too. 🙂

SOUP is right, Deborah! I like the Mock Turtle’s song in (which one was it?) one of the Alice books: “Soup of the evening. Beautiful, beautiful souuuuuuup!”

I can’t get the Hot Flash link to work. It sends me to 2012!
