Strange Twinkly Christmas Pries Open the Heart of Tech Monkeys #FridayRecommends

Friday RecommendsHappy Friday. Thirty days hath September, April, June, and November. Yeah, okay, so tomorrow is the last day of 2016, and good riddance to it. Saying that the American elections didn’t go quite the way I’d hoped is a classic example of understatement. And we seem to have lost more than a year’s worth of pop culture icons, from David Bowie to Richard Adams (author of WATERSHIP DOWN).

So I’ve collected some recommendations I hope you’ll like.

First, I’ve just discovered Jan Malique’s wonderful blog, strangegoingsonintheshed. I particularly want to recommend this Solstice-y post for its surreal hilarity.

Joey Mottern is always thoughty and frequently funny as hell, and you can’t go better than her twinkly lights post this year.

Meeka (author A. C. Flory) wishes us Hope, Not Hate at Christmas and in the coming year, and supplies a video of the Best. Flash-mob. Ever. in her post.

Alicia Butcher Ehrhardt, author of my beloved PRIDE’S CHILDREN, posts about a remedy for compassion fatigue and a discussion of how fiction pries open the heart and wedges it open.

Now that your heart is open, allow me to direct your attention to Tech For Troops, which provides veterans with electronics and training in using tech they may not be savvy with. They take donations of money and/or devices.

Finally, you prolly ordered a bunch of stuff from Amazon, so your mailbox is now filling up with requests for reviews of products you will never use because YOU BOUGHT THEM AS GIFTS, RIGHT? Dan Antion feels your pain.

About

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.

Thanks for the shout, and the recommendations. I follow some of those folks, but I’ll give a look to the others. I noticed that you left out Sweetie Pie. I know she writes under your heading, but…

I’ll wish you a Happy New Year, since this is _your_ last post (see above) of the year. It’s been great fun following, certainly a bright spot in 2016.

You think I should recommend my own blog (though another writer?). Somehow, that makes me think of Chico Marx: “Atsa funny. He thinks I look alike.”

I’m glad you’ve enjoyed following this year; I’ve certainly been enriched by following you and the bloggers I’ve met through you. 🙂

Thanks for the shout-out. I’m glad we have one another to share foodie, Hoosierly, cat mom things with, and also that we can commiserate over the orange-faced facist together.
