Lorem Ipsum Is Not a Forme of Cury, So Give It Back #FridayRecommends

Friday RecommendsSome of you probably know Lorem Ipsum. Lorem Ipsum is dummy text used by printers and web designers to hold the place that will later be taken by the actual text. It isn’t just random Latin or Latin-looking words, though; it’s from a work by Cicero. This nifty site, conveniently titled Lorem Ipsum, tells all about it, and will generate a chunk of Lorem Ipsum for your use and/or entertainment (if that’s the sort of thing that entertains you).

While we’re back in time, go take a look at Forme of Cury, “A Roll Of Ancient English Cookery, Compiled, about A.D. 1390, by the Master-Cooks of King Richard II”. You can browse it at this site, or find it at Project Gutenberg. You can buy it in paper, if you insist. Or you can go to the Renstore and find a couple of modernized recipes from it. Love it!

Speaking of love, the insurance people’s ad agencies have done it again.

You’re welcome.

Do you know that feeling when you know you used to know something? That’s lorem ipsum for me. For a moment, I thought of my father (printer for 20 years) and then I saw a woodcut… and thank goodness you led me back with your post! 🙂

My husband didn’t know this – I explained the obvious bit only a year ago. He had no reason to notice – and I had come across it many places having to do with templates and half-finished websited.

My solution to the ‘problem’? Replace it with MY text as soon as humanly possible. The internet is a palimpsest, but most people don’t go to the Wayback Machine.

I make great use of the Wayback Machine, when old links go bad. 🙂
