Anudder Brudder #ThursdayDoors

We went to Easter at another of Charlie’s brothers’ and I snapped some more doors. One of the grown nephews challenged me, speaking thusly: “Oh, no! You are NOT taking selfies!” And I said, “No, I’m taking pictures of doors. But if I wanted to take selfies, I would!!” Whippersnapper.

The house is in a wonderful neighborhood, with lots of Storybook Style houses. This one is kind of between Craftsman and Storybook, probably built in the late 1920s or early 1930s. I meant to ask, but I forgotted.

Here’s a close-up.

In the hall, there’s this thing we had in our old house. Somebody said it was a phone box. Ours had a niche above it, too. Ours was empty, and the phone was on the wall in the kitchen. Theirs had an empty box in it.

On the back wall of the kitchen, is this door. It’s painted shut now, but Charlie’s brother said it was so the milkman to put milk into from outside, and you could open the door and take your milk out in the kitchen. I should have gone out and seen if I could get a shot of the outside door, but it was raining and I’m not that dedicated, especially when food is waiting.

Speaking of food, here is their free-standing pantry.

In a corner in the front room, Charlie’s brother has this old Victrola case he gutted and refinished. Relax: because it was in such bad shape, it couldn’t be restored.

In the opposite corner is this longcase clock. Oh, you thought it was called a Grandfather clock? Not until 1876. Read all about it.

While you’re hopping around all over the internet, don’t forget to stop by Norm Frampton’s blog to look at his Thursday Doors post. Then click on the blue frog link and share a door of your own, or visit some other doors.

Your Like button is awol, but I like this post 🙂
I love the old phone niches. Our house had one, and it was enlarged to a pass-thru. I also like those.
Love the Victrola case, too. He did a great job!

What the heck is up with that Like button??? Well, thanks for liking the post, anyway. 🙂 Pass-throughs are THE FUN! The mug of coffee! The plate of cake! The cat!

First off, bonus points for appropriate use of “Whippersnapper” – should be said more often. I was going to deduct point for not getting the outside milk door, due to rain. But, rain and food, OK, you win.

    Great doors. Well told.

Thanks, Dan. Maybe next time I’m there, I’ll think to find the outside door. 🙂

Nice ones. Love the phone box and the Victrola.
Sadly I think I’m at the age where I could get away with callin’ young folk whippersnappers too 🙂

The younger they are, the fewer years older you have to be before they grant you that right.

Fun doors! I like the refurbed Victrola, and the door under the niche.

He’s very creative and handy, from cooking and sewing to woodwork, tiling, and stained glass. And his wife makes jewelry. Fun folks. 🙂

So many whippersnappers, so little time. 🙂 That’s an inviting entrance and I love the Victrola case, although when I looked at the photo on the left, I thought it was a stove. 🙂 The vase? on top looks at first glance like a stovepipe.

Oh, it sure does! I should have backed up some, but I was so focused on the doors, I didn’t see the big picture. 😀
