Doorway to Deliciousness #ThursdayDoors

Every now and then, Charlie and I go to Frederick’s Cafe for a late breakfast. They have great biscuits and sausage gravy (a half order is enough) and home fries (we split an order and usually take some home).

I’ve been eating on that spot of real estate ever since we moved here. When we first came, Donahue’s (bar in the front, family room in the back), which served the best prime rib I’ve ever eaten, occupied that corner. I would take Mom for her birthday; she would take me for my birthday; on Mother’s Day, we would each get exactly the same thing and pay for each other’s order.

Then Mr. Donahue retired, and Olga’s opened. ‘Scuse me, It was called The Real Enchilada, but everybody called it either Olga’s (the name of the owner) or El Donahue’s. That’s where Mom once got a quesadilla as big as her head. It’s also where, as I posted on my old WEBLAHG, which this blog is supposed to be more professional than but isn’t, about a chicken adventure.

ANYWAY, then Olga’s closed and Frederick’s opened over on the Square, and outgrew the space, and took Olga’s place.

So Charlie and I went to Frederick’s and I got this doorway picture (at last!) with the doorway to the kitchen showing through a couple of arches. I like this kind of picture.

That’s Charlie’s brown fuzzy elbow.

The back of the girl’s head: I walked in and saw her with her parents, all of whom I knew, and I thought, my gosh, little Katie must be a teenager by now! Then we said a few words to each other, and I realized she’s probably in her thirties. How is that even possible? How can people I knew when they were born be in their thirties, when I’m not even in my thirties yet?

It’s a mystery.

What isn’t a mystery is that Thursday Doors is brought to you courtesy of Norm Frampton. Visit his blog, view his photos, scroll to the bottom of any of his Thursday Doors posts, click on the blue frog button, and find links to doors from all over the world. You’ll be glad you did.

Time warp. You should know that. That young girl got caught in a time warp and aged faster than you. It’ pretty simple when you think about it. Breakfast doors are the best.

It’s a good photo. It’s one of those where we feel like we’re taking a naughty peek of life in action.
There was a point in time where I had to ask someone at the family reunion, “Now, is that her boy all grown up, or is that a boyfriend?” Cause really, I can’t keep up with my own age, let alone that of others.
Off to read the chicken thing.

I love a restaurant that doesn’t care if you can see what they’re doin’ to the food. And, yeah, it’s like one of those reality cooking shows without the commercials, right?

Sounds like a building of deliciousness no matter the name on the doors. It always amused me when we were children and people we didn’t see often would say, “My, how you’ve grown.” Well, duh! What did they expect? But I’ve had to struggle not to say those words many times and yes, the age thing hits home with me, too. How can our girls be 27 and 30 when I’m only…??? Weird how that all works!

LOL! I’m with you, Janet! I stopped getting older some time ago, but my body didn’t get the memo.

Love Frederick’s! They have the best veggie omelets. Chris and I have had many “date mornings / family bidness meetings” of a Saturday there. πŸ™‚

We’ve been here more than 30 years, so we’re still newcomers. We couldn’t get anywhere around town until we learned what folks meant by “It’s where the old Jay C used to be. Not the new old one, but the OLD old one, this side of the creek.” Now WE can say stuff like, “Turn left at that bank where there used to be a pig farm.”

Biscuits and gravy are not staples of the breakfast menu around these parts, but I’m sure it was quite delicious. It is encouraging when the place allows you a view into what they’re doing with your food isn’t it?
