Goose, Geese, and Ducks #FoundPoem

The problem with using the newspaper’s call-in forum is that, whatever you say, that’s what they print. Don’t ask me where the parentheses come from; maybe it’s the transcriber’s best guess.

Goose, Geese, and Ducks

by Anonymous Caller

I’d like to comment
on Buffalo Trace Park.
Buffalo Trace is a beautiful park
but it is being ruined
by all of the
goose,
geese
and ducks.
You can’t have a picnic up there anymore
because you can’t sit in the grass
because of all
duck
and geese
feces.
If they get that (lake algae) cleaned up
and get rid of a few of the geese and ducks,
we’d have our park again.

All I can say is, if I wanted to picnic in Buffalo Trace Park, I’d be happy if I found traces of nothing but goose, geese, and duck.

I’m posting today at Fatal Foodies about a restaurant I wish were in my back yard. Or front yard. Or the end of my road.

A WRITING PROMPT FOR YOU: A character’s picnic is ruined by something larger than an ant.

I’d be tempted to call in and say: “Hi, I’m one of the geese over at Buffalo Trace Park. My family has been using the pond here for generations – long before you people built a park next to it. We don’t mind sharing, but lately this guy has been here and he was very rude to us and our friends, Mr and Mrs Duck. I know there’s nothing you can do about humans using the park, but this guy ruined our day.”

LOL! I’m surprised someone didn’t do that. It gets pretty give-and-take there, sometimes. If I buy you a subscription to the paper, would you make long-distance calls to Live Wire in response to some of the calls? No? Oh, well, it was worth a try. ~grin~

You learn something new every day: I wasn’t aware there is such a thing as a call-in forum for a newspaper. Makes sense – few people want to take the time to write something out – but you can always believe they misunderstood you.

    I’m going to try this:

“I know you think you know what I said, but I don’t think you know that what I said is not what I meant to say.”

Not sure that’s right, or who said it, but it applies.

“I know you think you know…” I love it! Yes, the Live Wire is very popular. A couple of the regular callers even identify themselves by name, though most of them prefer to pop off anonymously.
