Charlie and I were out froggin’ around (as they say in Corning, New York, where Mom lived and worked for 15 years). While froggin’, we stopped in at Young’s Country Market, a relatively new business in town. Young’s moved into the old Alstott’s Hardware building, which I posted about before, and which closed when Mr. Alstott passed.
The building is under remodeling, inside and out. Here’s a little eye candy for my remodeling friends.
First, a gallery of outside shots:
We went inside (of course!), and Mrs. Young gave us a tour. Downstairs, where the removal of pegboard and plywood revealed windows, brick, and architectural bits.
She took us upstairs, which I didn’t even know was there. More brick, more windows, and a pressed tin ceiling.
I leave you with this sign, which comes under the heading of “cracker-barrel philosophy,” but which I love.
Thursday Doors is the baby of Norm Frampton, photographer extraordinaire. Go to his blog, look at his wonderful pictures, scroll down, and click the little blue frog linky to find doors from all over the world. Maybe you can add your own!

September 21, 2017 at 2:35pmIt’s a nice store, run by nice folks. She made me lol when she said, the electrician blew a fuse in the old electric box, and I was like, “Why did Alstott’s close? Alstott’s would have had it!”

September 21, 2017 at 2:36pmI know! I kind of understand covering the windows to get more wall space, but why cover the arch above the door? smh
