Do you love “Bartleby the Scrivener” by Herman Melville? What am I saying? Of course you do! If you haven’t read it, you can read it online or download it in multiple formats — FOR FREE — at Project Gutenberg. Or, if you prefer, you can go to Bartleby.com: Great Books Online, which is a fabulous source, anyway.

So read the story, and then go read this take-off by Jay at Bibliophilopolis. You’re welcome.

I live in fear that I’ll read an announcement that “Bartleby the Scrivener” is being made into a musical by Tim Burton, starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. The Amazing Sara Marian would probably go to see it, but I would prefer not to.

A WRITING PROMPT BASED ON MY POST: A character has to deal with a puzzlingly difficult employee.

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.
