My friend and fellow writer Mildred Perkins has sent me another couple of doors to feed my obsession. Today seemed like a good day to share one of them. This is a beaut from Mitchell, Indiana, a lovely and historic town.
Mitchell was incorporated in 1864 at the junction between two railroad lines, Dan. In fact, Mitchell is way about the railroads: Its founder ordered the Civil War raid called The Great Locomotive Chase, and it’s the birthplace of Sam Bass, who went west and robbed trains. Unrelated (insofar as I know) to trains, it’s also the birthplace of astronaut Gus Grissom.
I’ve been through Mitchell many times, on my way to sommers else, but I’ve also sightseen there. This is one of the day trips Mom and I took Sara on during The Summer of the Day Trips. We went to Spring Mill Park and the Gus Grissom Museum.
I think Norm Frampton, founder of Thursday Doors, is still on vacay, but he has many past posts at his website.
