This is the first of the month, so there’s a new Hot Flash (micro-mini story) on my Hot Flashes page.
A week or so ago, #4 Daughter, The Amazing Sara Marian, picked up Charlie and me and took us to the Speed Art Museum in Louisville, Kentucky.
The new area was pretty cool, but I love the old part, because that’s where I used to take Sara. Then I used to take Oldest Grandson, when he was wee.
The museum is so big, we didn’t have a chance to see everything before the lecture we had come to attend, but we still saw a bunch. I got some door/doorway/lamp pictures. And, of course, an oddity or two.

February 1, 2018 at 7:56amYour favorite room is certainly mine. That’s just gorgeous. The corner cabinet is interesting. I don’t ever recall seeing a piece like that with the lower panels set so the grain goes perpendicular to the large panels. I’m not sure it works as well, but I didn’t build it, so…

February 1, 2018 at 8:07amThey must have liked it, I guess. Maybe they made it out of scrap, and that was the only way those pieces would fit. Makes you wonder.

February 1, 2018 at 12:58pmLooks like quite a museum, Marian. I’m glad fire fighters don’t fight like that. Hopefully no houses burned down while they were deciding who should put out the blaze!! 🙂

February 2, 2018 at 7:46amYou know, Janet, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn than a house or two DID burn down while the volunteers fought. It explains this old joke: A warehouse was on fire, and several companies responded, all competing for who could put out the fire. The last company to show up was from [insert name of small local town here]. Instead of stopping to fight or discuss, the fire engine plowed right into the heart of the blaze and the firefighters put out the conflagration from the inside. When they stood outside, slightly crispy, the warehouse owner praised their courage and promised them a massive monetary reward. He asked them what they would do with the money. The chief said, “The first thing we’re gonna do is get the brakes on the fire engine fixed.”

I’m with Dan on that corner cabinet. If there’s a specific reason for arranging the lower panels’ grain direction like that, I sure don’t know what it is. I do find it “bothers the eye” in a subtle way.
Even if brief, I’m sure it was an enjoyable visit to what looks like a lovely museum 🙂

February 2, 2018 at 7:49amI love that museum, Norm. I want to go again, maybe with Sara, since we have so many happy memories of wandering around in there. She still remembers our spending an hour or so in the Elizabethan room while I explained the references in the panels. She always loved history and hidden things. Probably why archaeology was a good choice for her.

February 2, 2018 at 7:54amIt’s weird that I didn’t even notice that. That’s the kind of thing that usually Monks me out. I guess I was subconsciously channeling my inner editor: That isn’t what I would have done, but it’s your piece; it does the job you intended it to do, so it works. lol
