Elvis’ Sideburns Flower in the Kitchen #FridayRecommends

Friday RecommendsStory A Day May is over for another year. But I’m still blogging every day, ’cause that’s the kind of hairpin I am.

Today is the first of the month, so that means I have a new micro-mini story on my Hot Flashes page.

Okay. So I get these emails from these totally random places, citing some post or another that, like, mentions in passing something they mentioned in passing in one of their posts. And they say they believe their post would interest my readers. And I’m like, “I have readers?”

Does this mean I do have a large enough readership to attract some kind of link-bot, or that link-bots don’t care whether or not you have readers, so long as you have a web presence, however small?

I dunno.

But I usually follow the link they provide (checking at the bottom of my screen to be sure I’m going where they claim I’m going). It’s almost always interesting to me, ’cause what isn’t? Sometimes, it actually is appropriate for this blog, which does, I’ll admit, have a pretty fuzzy focus.

So here are two total misses and one right-on-target link-bot (is that even the right word?) offerings.

Elvis Presley’s Sideburns

I’m just sending you a quick email to let you know that while browsing your site, I noticed you linked to Elvis Presley, my absolute favorite entertainer (https://marianallen.com/2014/04/elvis-atoz-letter-e/).
I believe our piece on his beard is a great addition to your page as it’s very comprehensive, greatly researched and the most in-depth article about him.

So, Elvis’ sideburns, this is for you: Elvis Presley’s Immense Contribution to Music and His Famous Sideburns – Grow It Like King of Rock ‘n’ Roll on Beardoholic.

Gardening Because Graphics

My name is George, and I’m on the content team at Loyalgardener.com.

I just finished going through your article here: https://marianallen.com/2018/03/mysterious-palate-images-from-monkey-fridayrecommends/. Thanks for the resource!

My colleague recently put together a pretty comprehensive piece on an infographic looking at the flower industry. There is a ton of information out there; our guide was designed to cut through the noise a bit.

The post is here: https://www.loyalgardener.com/an-infographic-looking-at-the-flower-industry/

Would you consider linking to it in the article of yours I mentioned above? I saw you linked to pixabay.com in there, so I figured I’d see if you’d link to mine as well. Perhaps your visitors find it helpful, but hey, it’s up to you.

Doncha love that passive/aggressive last line? But it is a nifty and gorgeous website, for realz. And I learned stuff from the infographic. Like, who would have thought that 4% of the fresh flowers grown in the United States are grown in New Jersey? Feel free to make mob jokes. Be sure to leave your web address, so they can come after you, not me.

Actually Appropriate Foodie Site

Dear Editor,

My name is Jesse and I’m the Editor at Jen Reviews. I was doing research on carnitas and just finished reading your wonderful blog post: https://marianallen.com/2015/10/egg-foo-mex/

In that article, I noticed that you cited a solid post that I’ve read in the past: http://www.mexgrocer.com/515-carnitas.html

We just published a delicious carnitas recipe complete with step-by-step pictures and detailed instructions. You can find it here: https://www.jenreviews.com/authentic-carnitas-recipe/

If you like the recipe we’d be humbled if you cited us in your article. Of course, we will also share your article with our newsletter subscribers and followers across our social platforms.

Either way, keep up the great work!

Warmly,
Jesse

Isn’t that charming? And Jesse has interacted with me when I replied to the email. And the carnitas recipe looks BALICIOUS!!!!! Totally gonna try that!

A WRITING PROMPT BASED ON MY POST: Write about somebody with sideburns, some flowers, and cooking. Meth counts. But don’t cook meth really, cause BAD.
