Frankfort Comic-Con #ThursdayDoors

Not going back. Not ever going back.

That said, many parts of it were ab-fab. The hotel staff and con staff were wonderful, the attendees were great, we sold well, and the venue was super-easy to find.

On the negative side, we only had about half a table for all our books, one chair (staff got us more), and no way out except to crawl under the tables. Our fellow vendors were super-great, though, so we scrooched behind one another to get in and out at the table ends.

ALSO, before we registered, I expressed distress to find that the General Lee, the Confederate flag-bedecked car from The Dukes of Hazzard, was going to be at the event. The con organizer told me the car had cancelled. All subsequent promotion featured that car. When I pointed this out later, the organizer said, “Oh, yes, I need to update the site and take it down.” Guess what was at the event?

ANYWAY, there were doors. I took pictures of them. Also: lights.

I have an odd love for parking garage doors. Very tech.

We had to park in the no-parking zone to unload/load, and park across the street in the parking garage. Luckily, it wasn’t pouring down buckets of rain that day. The staff held the doors for us and kept us laughing with their high spirits.

Just inside the door was this beautiful waterfall.

What would you use to hold open a door in a Kentucky hotel? Why a bourbon barrel, of course!

This guy faithfully guarded the door between the lobby and the vendor room and did it very well.

Some of the wonderful costumes. Click on any photo to start a slideshow.

Special shout-out to this lady. Sara and I were like, “Nikki! Are you Nikki?” Sadly, she was not Nikki. She was Rose Quartz. You can see how we made the mistake. Because pink hair and long white dress, right? She agreed; nevertheless, she continued to not be Nikki.

Lights for Joey!

If you had to pick one superhero who had to park in the no-parking zone to unload/load in spite of heat or other inclement weather, who would you pick? Yeah, me, too.

And so back to the garage to find my car. It helps, when you have friends to mark your level.

So we mostly had a really good time, but we’re not ever going back any more. Probably. There are plenty of other events.

This has been part of Thursday Doors, a link-up hosted by Norm Frampton, photographer extraordinaire. Norm is on break for the next couple of weeks, but you can still visit his site and enjoy his photographs.

A PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Write about a parking garage. Or people in costume. Or people who lie.

I don’t like it when you make plans based on information that turns out to be incorrect. Great photo!

The information wasn’t incorrect, it was flat-dang deliberately false. Not happy.

Shame on the organizer for lying to you. A real Boss Hogg! Or maybe a Roscoe P. Coltrane?

Yeah, I can’t be having with people who just lie, you know? But Per Bastet might do more Comic-Cons with different people running them. Although the General Lee seems to be extremely popular with the nostalgia crowd.
