Science Fiction Fairy Tale #FridayRecommends

Friday RecommendsThis post title sounds like one of my usual mash-ups, but it isn’t.

Some brave souls are doing Story A Day SEPTEMBER. One of those is the divine Marta Pelrine-Bacon (aka mapelba).

She’s using September to write backstory for a science fiction fairy tale she’s working on. None (or little) of this will be in the finished book; this is purely to help her inform the fullness of her universe and characters. Raw fan juice.

Her September posts begin here. WARNING: She’s also a spectacular artist, so be prepared to be blown away by the graphics that accompany the posts!

While you’re there, check out her beautiful Spells, her fabulous art (some for sale! I have some!), her marvelous stories, her delightful Writers’ DSM, and her enchanting novel (which I also have), THE BLUE JAR.

A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Write a bit of backstory for a character–one of your own or one of somebody else’s–that wasn’t or won’t be in the finished product.

About

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.
