A Fish-ish Dinner

Charlie loves these Salmon Burgers. I can take ’em or leave ’em, but he loves them, and they’re about two bucks apiece, which is a reasonable meal.

So we had this:

Baby lima beans, brown rice (instant–ick–but I’m using up stuff that’s been around for a while), and salmon burger. I mixed dill weed into some sour cream to dress up the burger a little, and sprinkled smoked paprika over everything. It really ties the plate together, man.

I’m posting today at Fatal Foodies about a terrible restaurant meal I brought home and made slightly edible.

I’d have to push those lima babies off the edge, but otherwise, a nice meal.

We call ’em salmon cakes and we make ’em using Zatarain’s Salmon Cake Mix. I love them, I do. In fact, I’d serve them with brown rice and lima beans. Looks yummy to me.

When we made them from canned salmon, we called them salmon croquettes. Charlie’s family calls them salmon patties. Salmon Burgers is literally the name of this pre-made product, though, so that’s what I call these. I like the ones I make from canned salmon MUCH better. Have you ever made them from fresh-cooked salmon? I tried it, but I still like the canned-salmon ones best. I leave the crunchy bones in. Savage.

This may tickle your funny bone.

We have a wonderful Sunday brunch every week, and it is full of goodies. Two days ago, they had, besides the smoked salmon husband loves (yes, with cream cheese and California ‘bagels,’ but he can’t have everything), there were something labeled Salmon puffs in the salads and such section. I’m not a fan of fish, period. So I didn’t take one, except to be happy they were labeled.

Last night, on the desserts table, there were a bunch of things I’m learning to resist :(, but I took a plain cream puff because those are always good, and I noted there seemed to be some green bits on the platter.

Something grew in my mind as I was chatting with my dinner companion (hubby’s tummy wasn’t 100%, so he decided to get a takeout box), I wondered about those green bits, and knowing my proclivities, I asked the server to find out of those were, by any chance, the puffs from the brunch.

So glad I did, because when she came back, told me I was right, I suggested they move them to the other counter, and she said she already had!

I wonder how many people had the experience of biting into a cream puff from the dessert table…

Husband laughed his head off. He knows how much I love Salmon, but for dessert, it would have been priceless.

ROTF! That IS priceless! I would never do that to somebody on purpose, but the look on somebody’s face would be YouTube-worthy. I love salmon, too, but, as you say, expecting to taste whipped cream and getting salmon would be a shock-and-a-half. LOL! Thanks for the laugh, Alicia!
