Tamales in the #InstantPot

So I made tamales in my Instant Pot. Oh, yes, I did!

See, I went to our second-favorite Mexican restaurant (that we know about) in our little town, and I got carnitas, as usual, and had a bunch left over. So I made tamales.

So these tamales were not vegetarian, and not kosher or halal, but I could have used fish or chicken or beans and/or rice. Apart from the filling, the method is the same.

Who, you ask, just happens to have a bag of corn husks and a bag of masa mix in her pantry? I do. Because I just do, that’s why!

I didn’t think the carnitas were flavory enough, so I squeezed some lime juice on them and sprinkled them with Penzeys Tsardust Memories.

Basically, I used this recipe at TheCents’AbleShoppin. I opted out of the Jalapenos, since Charlie doesn’t do heavy spices. I had some hot sauce left from a carryout, and I put that on my tamales at the table.

The biggest problem was getting the lid to seal. I had to keep trimming the tops of the husks. Small problem!

How did they come out?

Look just like tamales, don’t they? They were delicious, too!

I’m posting at Fatal Foodies today about split pea soup I made in the Instant Pot. That one is vegan, and was also delicious.

Well done! How long did you have them on? Did you use the steamer, or pressure to cook them?
I’ve seen and read through a lot of InstantPot recipes in the last few months, but Tamales isn’t one of them. I think you’re ready for a YouTube cooking channel with your Fatal Foodies recipes.

I’m going to try Beef Boulinaise next. They won’t be Kosher or Halal either. I’ll use a combo of beef, pork, and milk all in one pot.

I pressured them for 25 minutes. Oh, Deborah, if I had a cooking channel, it would be Not Safe For Children. Two women in one of my in-progress Spadena Street books have a cooking channel: The Kitchen Bitches. That’s probably what mine would be like. More swears than calories, and plenty of both. How’s that for a tag line? lol! You gonna post your recipe?
