Privacy Policy for Marian Allen, Author Lady

At Marian Allen, Author Lady, accessible from marianallen.com, I never think about the privacy of my visitors. Let’s be honest: I never give it a thought. Fortunately, WordPress DOES think about it, and has suggested I have a policy about it. This Privacy Policy document contains types of information collected and recorded by Marian Allen, Author Lady and how I use it.

If you have additional questions or require more information about this Privacy Policy, do not hesitate to contact me through email at ma@marianallen.com

Log Files

Marian Allen, Author Lady follows a standard procedure of using log files. These files log visitors when they visit websites. All hosting companies do this as a part of hosting services’ analytics. The information collected by log files include internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, referring/exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. These are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable. The purpose of the information is for analyzing trends, administering the site, tracking users’ movement on the website, and gathering demographic information. As if I bother.

Cookies and Web Beacons

Like any other website, Marian Allen, Author Lady uses ‘cookies’. These cookies are used to store information including visitors’ preferences, and the pages on the website that the visitor accessed or visited. Why? Fuck if I know. It isn’t as if I tailor my posts to trends and shit.

If you leave a comment on my site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. You will leave another comment, won’t you? You’re not just one of those one-comment stand visitors, are you? Tell me you’re not. Lie to me. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. Seems wasteful, but whatever.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed. So now you know.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form (duh), and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. Detect and deflect. Oh, and sometimes hold up to ridicule. Spam, I mean, not real folks.

BTW, visitor comments will be checked through automated spam detection services.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

SOURCE: AKISMET

We collect information about visitors who comment on Sites that use our Akismet anti-spam service. The information we collect depends on how the User sets up Akismet for the Site, but typically includes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL (along with other information directly provided by the commenter such as their name, username, email address, and the comment itself).

Privacy Policies

“You may consult this list to find the Privacy Policy for each of the advertising partners of Marian Allen, Author Lady.” That’s boilerplate. I don’t have any advertising partners.

Note that Marian Allen, Author Lady has no access to or control over cookies that are used by third-party sites linked to in my blog posts. That’s their headache.

Third Party Privacy Policies

Marian Allen, Author Lady’s Privacy Policy does not apply to other advertisers or websites. Thus, I advise you to consult the respective Privacy Policies of these third-parties for more detailed information. It may include their practices and instructions about how to opt-out of certain options.

You can choose to disable cookies through your individual browser options. To know more detailed information about cookie management with specific web browsers, it can be found at the browsers’ respective websites. What Are Cookies?<–Why was this question randomly inserted into the boilerplate generated by the Privacy Policy Generator I used? If you don’t know what browser cookies are, for God’s sake don’t Google it, or you’ll get some. Use Duck Duck Go or Ecosia to look it up.

Children’s Information

Another part of my priority is advocating protection for children while using the internet. We encourage parents and guardians to observe, participate in, and/or monitor and guide their online activity.

Marian Allen, Author Lady does not knowingly collect any Personal Identifiable Information from children under the age of 13. If you think that your child provided this kind of information on this website, I strongly encourage you to contact me immediately and I’ll promptly remove such information from my records. WordPress told me how.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website. In fact, find out how to go into your camera and turn that shit off anyway.

Contact forms

If you send me a message through my contact form, that gives me your email address. When I reply to you, that puts your email address into my address book. If you don’t want it there, let me know and I’ll belete it. YES, I SAID BELETE. That’s how I say it, which you know if you read my bliggityblog.

Online Privacy Policy Only

This privacy policy (created with the GDPR Generator) (and edited by Marian Allen) applies only to my online activities and is valid for visitors to my website with regards to the information collected on Marian Allen, Author Lady. This policy is not applicable to any information collected offline or via channels other than this website. So if you wrote something on a cocktail napkin and slipped it to me, you’re screwed.

How Long We Retain Your Data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What Rights You Have Over Your Data

If you’re worried about that, you shouldn’t be on the internet, but whatever. If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Consent

By using my website, you hereby consent to my Privacy Policy and agree to its Terms and Conditions.

About

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.
