Birfday!

Today is my birfday (60) and also the last day of the contest to win a book or your name in a short story I’m getting ready to write. Details are HERE.

Mom was planning to take me to Magdalena’s yesterday for prime rib, but her sciatica was giving her gip, so we didn’t go. We’ll go another time. 🙂 She’s getting treatments, but they haven’t really taken hold yet. I had it, myself, but exercises and the chiropractor fixed me up. Hers is worse, and they aren’t helping her.

Today, we plan to go somewhere for lunch and then go to the Kentucky Opera’s Cav/Pag, a double bill of two relatively short operas. It got a great write-up in the paper this morning, so I hope we go, but I’d almost rather we didn’t, because I’ll be worried about Mom the whole time. She’s Iron Woman–she’ll put up with pain until she just can’t, and by that time it’s REALLY bad.

Anyway, Charlie pointed out this morning that he and I have been married half of my life. How about that? From now on, I’ll have been married longer than I was single. That just seems so weird. But in a GOOD way.

WRITING PROMPT: Write a paragraph about two people who have been in a long-term relationship and still like each other and are not boring.

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.

Happy Birthday! ” I Pagliacci” is one my favorite operas. I hope you and your mother both enjoyed the day.

We enjoyed the day, but we didn’t get to go to the opera. Mom was afraid she couldn’t sit that long without her sciatica acting up, and our seats are right in the middle of a long row. She’ll have had a course of three shots by the time of the next opera, and we’re hoping we can make it to that one. 🙂
