Previews of Coming Attractions

On Monday, renowned Canadian author Cherish D’Angelo (Cheryl K. Tardif) will be here as part of her marathon Blog Book Tour for LANCELOT’S LADY. She’ll also guest for me at Goodreads on October 7 and Fatal Foodies on October 10. Can I milk my opportunities for slacking, or can’t I?

I’ve just learned that the October blog-a-day challenge has a theme: Did you know…? So I’ll be attempting to write to that theme.

DID YOU KNOW that my friend Jane, with whom I have lunch once a month, and I have been friends since the summer between junior high and high school? I’ve also been friends that long with Beth Johnson, and actually met her first, but Beth lives on the East Coast, so I hardly ever see her, alas.

I was at the band/orchestra picnic after the end of the school year (did you know I played the trumpet in the junior high band?) and several of us girls climbed up into a tree. We got to talking, and one of them and I both liked Peter Lorre. When we climbed down, she took a stick and drew a fantastic picture of a horse in the dirt. I said I wished we could preserve it for posterity, a word she had never heard before. She asked me what it meant and memorized it. I was used to people giving me Looks when I used a word they didn’t understand, so a friendship was inevitable. That was Beth.

She introduced me to Jane; Beth knew her from the Louisville Orchestra. Jane is fiercely intelligent, but puts up with me anyway.

So now you know.

WRITING PROMPT: Who is your main character’s longest-standing friend? How did they meet? How has their friendship developed?

About

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.

Thanks for pre-promoting my blog stop for tomorrow. I look forward to stopping by and chatting. 🙂

To answer your question, in Lancelot’s Lady, the main character is Rhianna McLeod. I guess you could say her best friend is elderly billionaire JT Lance. They met months earlier when Rhianna applied for a job as JT’s nurse. JT has become a father figure, something that was lacking in Rhianna’s life.

Sadly, JT is dying, but Fate and a wise man’s manipulations ensure that Rhianna finds a new best friend in the handsome but irritating Jonathan, owner of a tropical island in the Bahamas.
