One Brave Woman

You can find blogs out here in the blogosphere about being a writer and about personal struggles and journeys, and I’ve found one I love. It’s Mary Campbell’s wonderfully named Writer’s Butt Does Not Apply To Me.

Her “About” statement is this: “I’m a wife and mother living part of my dream. Now I’m hoping to live all of it. Come. Join me in my quest to be published and thin. Leave a comment and tell me about you and your dreams. Let’s live them together!” It’s followed by a photo of her backside labeled: “This is the butt of which I speak.” I’m a sucker for good grammar, so you know I loved that.

I also have a writer’s butt, not to put too fine a point on it, so I felt an instant kinship with Mary, as soon as I saw her sidebar.

She has book reviews and writing tips and she speaks honestly about her triumphs and obstacles. Reading her blog is like having coffee with a friend. A friend who writes. A friend who gets it.

I think it was fantasy N. R. Williams who put me onto Ms. Campbell, so here’s a shout-out for Nancy’s great blog, too. Nancy is a dynamo, who always has time to be kind.

I’m telling you, kids: People who say the internet is faceless don’t spend enough time on it. How about pen pals? Is a pen pal friendship faceless and unreal? Anybody seen 85 CHARING CROSS ROAD?

WRITING PROMPT: Write a through line (story arc) of an internet friendship that never goes face-to-face.

About

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.

Sounds like someone I want to meet. And I don’t think the Internet is faceless! To me it’s amazing how much you glean (is that the correct spelling) about the personalities of others as we meet in cyberspace.

Thanks for sharing. I’ll race right over!

Oh wow – Marian thank you so much for the nice post. Someone just left me comment letting me know they came to my blog because of your post. You’ve said such nice things about me and now I’m blushing. Thanks so much. I love the blogging and the writing community is so great – I’ve made so many great friends from blogging so I agree – the internet is not faceless.

I like Mary too Marian. I am honored to be mentioned, thank you. Now for your challenge. I’m thinking….thinking. Sometimes you just got to start writing.

Bernard gazed across the aisle to be sure no one watched as he shifted from work to fun. He was addicted to Beverly’s blog. He left comments everyday. Touched base with her facebook page, and twittered away on his DroidX. Someone noticed once, but only smiled at him. He thought he might call Beverly, but lacked the courage in the end. For now, he’d settle on buying her first released book, Strangers Among The Blog World.

There you have it. I had no idea what to write until I started. So far all you other commenters. Give it a whirl.
