We had a major ice storm in February of 2009 (for more pictures than you want to see, click here), and every time we get freezing rain I get twitchy. To see why, you might want to read this post on my old blahg.
It isn’t that I don’t like adventures. Well, I’m lying–I don’t like adventures, if I can possibly avoid them. I love to read about them, and I try to relish them if they happen, but I don’t seek them out. I like to think I’m Mr. Toad, but I’m more Mole from WIND IN THE WILLOWS: in the end, I want my snug, cozy, dull, comfortable routine.
WRITING PROMPT: Write a paragraph about a character who loves routine but is caught up in an adventure. Write a paragraph about an adventurer who is forced into inaction through incapacitation, being in disguise or other reason.

Her routine of study, practice, practice and study had instantly halted when she found herself in this strange French speaking world. At least she had her flute. But what about those monsters? The symberveen, Healden said. Man, oh man, couldn’t they have normal animals like bears and mountain lions. Those where scary enough. Now she had to fear something that attacked her with nightmares, disabled her and, God only knew what else.
If I’d put this in my book, (I didn’t) this might have been a moment of reflection for my heroine in my soon to be released high fantasy, The Treasures of Carmelidrium.

December 4, 2010 at 2:27pmIce is so treacherous, I’ll take snow over ice any day! I remember the December ice storm here in New England back in the 70s, and it shut down the state. We were without power for over a week :/
I’d prefer to just read about these adventures, too!
