October Update – Better Late Than Never

I was busy, okay? Anyway, the new Monthly Hot Flash is up and ready to read. In honor of Halloween, it’s creeeeepy.

The abfab Damyanti Biswas, who guested here and with whom I guested has reviewed FORCE OF HABIT. She liked it! πŸ™‚ ~Well, obviously, she liked it; otherwise, I wouldn’t be telling you about it. My mamma didn’t raise no fools.~

Since it’s Tuesday, I’m posting at Fatal Foodies about a sandwich that’s MUCH better than it sounds.

I’ve taken on another regular blog. I’ll be posting author interviews at That Book Place on the 7th of every month. At least to begin with, these will be authors who’ve done signings at the store. The first one scheduled is this month, with Gwen Mayo and Sarah Glenn, who are doing a two-person signing there on October 15.

I’m telling you what–I’m all eat up with blogging, aren’t I? If I had a nickel for every blog post I’ve written, I’d have a sizable chunk of monetization. You’d think I’d cash in on that, wouldn’t you?

Question for you, my Sweet Little Baby Angels: Does it bug you, to see ads all over a writer’s blog, or do you like it, or do you not notice them? If you’ve ad-ified your blog, what affiliate links or ad programs do you use?

WRITING PROMPT: Create a character who loves to blog. What does he/she blog about? Pick something out of the paper that doesn’t particularly interest you and have the character post often and passionately about it.

Personally ads can be a bit annoying. But most of the time I am able to ignore them. That said, every person has the right to try to earn a little extra cash, particularly in this day and age.

Thanks for the feedback, Bish. I go back and forth on it. I don’t seem to mind it on other sites, especially if the ads are appropriate to the content or, on the other hand, wildly INappropriate. I’m leaning toward NOT “monetizing”.

If it’s an ad for the author’s work, it doesn’t bother me one bit. I don’t really like the sites that are all Google-ads, though. It’s distracting and tacky.

I don’t mind ads for the author if they’re on the sides and don’t consist of repeated popups (I loathe popup ads).

Other advertising is okay if it’s also on the sides. I do prefer seeing the author’s own material in the spotlight, but understand the need for income.

What I really don’t like besides popups: Ads with images I wouldn’t want my co-workers or relatives to see (lingering to read such blogs is viewed as suspicious at best).

Red and Sarah, thanks for the feedback. I also don’t mind ads for the author’s own work. I also kind of like ads for other people’s work, if the covers aren’t too graphic in case my grandson catches a glimpse. I’ve found some great sites and products by cruising ads.

I love hearing other people’s takes on all this!
