Oh, how I love coffee! I so sympathize with that scene in GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE, where George gets into the coffee and runs around with his eyes all biggety, going, “Javajavajavajavajava!”
Know why java is slang for coffee? ‘Cause the Dutch cultivated coffee on the island of Java, back in the 17th Century. Here, read the Wikipedia article about it.
Also, listen to The Ink Spots sing my theme song, The Java Jive. I love the Manhattan Transfer version, too, but this one the one I grew up hearing.
Now for another cup of joe.
WRITING PROMPT: A character is desperate for a cup of coffee.

March 21, 2012 at 12:28pmCoffee has to be one of the best little pleasures in life. It is amazing how much I enjoy coffee in the morning…just makes my day. It also helps when you have great coffee to drink. I am currently living in Costa Rica and the coffee here is fabulous. I highly recommend it.

March 22, 2012 at 11:52amHi. I’ve been a coffee addict since I first had to show up for work at 7:00 am and face Betty Hardin.
You already know my other story: about Mom’s 3:00 am trip to the 7/11.

March 22, 2012 at 1:02pmNooo! Tell me that story! Even if I’ve heard it, I love to hear about the Mommy!

March 23, 2012 at 3:41am@Marian Allen – Hi. Mom decided to quit her two-pot-a-day coffee habit…wait for it: while on vacation in Florida with one of my sisters. By about 3:00 am the first night, her coffee craving was so bad (she couldn’t get to sleep without it) that my bro-in-law had to dash out to the 7/11 to get TWO big cups to settle the girl down. So cute.

March 26, 2012 at 4:09amYou know, that’s exactly what I tell my sister, the coffee pot loves me more than I love it, so it keeps calling my name every few hours, and all I do is appease it by sucking in a few sips from it….LOL….

March 26, 2012 at 9:30amI’m a java fiend, I’m afraid. Give me a chocolate-covered espresso bean, and heaven can wait.
