#Caturday The Coming of Katya

KATYAcKatya Graymalkin here.

Mom has animal friends online, and friends who live with animals, and sometimes the friends or the animals post about how they found each other. So I thought I’d do that today.

I grew on a peach tree. Mom says that isn’t possible, but the first thing I remember is being up in a tree as a tiny kitten, looking out over the grass and flowers and suddenly seeing Mom come around the corner of the shed. I knew she was my Mom as soon as I saw her, even though it’s the first thing I remember. Mom sometimes says I’m the reincarnation of the old cat who died just before I came, so maybe that explains it.

Anyway, I saw her, and I started yelling, “Mom! Mom! I’m up here! Help me!” Then I fell out of the tree!

I was so little, it didn’t hurt me. I ran toward Mom, but stopped and pretended to hide behind some flowers. After all, she might be mad at me for coming back! But she talked sweet to me, like she always did — except when I was bad or grumpy.

She brought me some food and water and told Charlie I was there.

“No more cats!” he said. Then he said, “Well, give the poor little thing some food and water. It won’t hurt for it to live outside.”

Mom and my youngest human sister were going away for the weekend. I heard Mom tell her, “You wait. When we get home, that cat will be in the house.”

She was right, of course! At first, I thought Charlie was my Daddy, since he was married to Mom. He petted me a lot, and played with my ears. He and Mom would sit on opposite ends of the couch so they could each have a light and a table for their coffee, and I would stretch out as far as a little kitty could to touch each one with a paw. But you know, not everybody you meet is going to be your Forever Person. That’s what makes it so special when you do peachmeet that One — or sometimes a whole family! Charlie is a good person, and he would never let anything bad happen to me, but … you know?

Anyway, that’s my Mom and I found each other, or maybe how we found each other again. And sometimes she calls me her Little Silver Sugar Peach. So maybe I really did grow on that peach tree. What do you think?

I’ve had so many lil critters attach onto me. Let’s see: Chiquita!

Chiquita was a black and white beauty who kept rushing up to me whenever I pullled into the driveway, purring and growling at the same time! A most peculiar sound. She’d follow me up onto the porch and look over at my real cat indoors, Nicholas, give me a confidential, slanty-eyed expression, and say, “We don’t reaaally need HIM, do we?”

Well, Nick found her alluring in a way he hadn’t found just any old random cat coming up onto the porch. In fact, he was most interested and didn’t act out by tearing at the window or trying to shred the blinds. For some time, I resisted this little hussy’s allures. I watched her doing the rounds up and down the street, auditioning for a home anywhere she could catch anyone’s attention.

Finally, a looked out my upstairs window one day and saw her limping up the sidewalk. She was having a hard time of it. I ran out and picked her up….and then left her on the porch. I figured she might have been bumped by a car and needed time for it to wear off. I also had never touched or picked her up before and hadn’t been sure even that would go well. A bit later, I peeked outside and saw her still sitting there. She looked around and said, “A little help here, already.”

So I got the cat carrier, popped her inside, hauled her past a curious Nicholas, and deposited her in the upstairs long room across the back of the house. And she was IN! Turned out she’d been munched on by something with two big teeth that had penetrated her lower right arm. We fixed her up, etc. Nick didn’t see any difference, since she was still behind a door from his perspective, not INSIDE his house.

More later: Chiquita gets her name, and Nicholas meets the invader face to face.

I love Katya’s story. I think she must be a peach. She certainly a peachy little girl.

Yes, well, you know how cats are: Sometimes she’s the peach and sometimes she’s the pits. 😉

I was at Kentucky Fried Chicken, eating with my boyfriend and adopted daddy, when Daddy pointed her out to me. My boyfriend laughed and said, “I bet we go home with that kitty!”
I sat there and watched her. She was terrified and hiding under cars, but she was starving and trying to get food.
I saved part of my chicken for her and, when my meal was finished, out I went to “save the kitty”.
I could not catch her or entice her to come out from under the car, no matter what I did.
My boyfriend came out and scared her out from under the car towards me. I caught her and was trying to get the chicken out of my pocket when she bit me! Yes, she bit me! I dropped her, but my boyfriend caught her and held her until I could get a box.
Once we got her in the box and some chicken in there for her to eat, she was okay with things.

They don’t always know they’re our kitties at first, and we don’t always know we’re their people at first. But we figure it out. 🙂

Yeah, I know what you mean. She comes to her name and insists on getting her loving now, though I wish she were more of a home kitty. She is still nearly as wild as before, but she comes home for treats, loving, and kitten bearing. Yup! She has given me another kitty today! Orange and white, I think.

Friend and frequent commenter, Jane, works with Alley Cat Advocates to catch, spay or neuter, and return cats to the wild. Maybe you could do something like that for your semi-wild kitty.

    Great story!

    I did the writing prompt!

    It’s sort of autobiographical. 😀
