Food and Frogs

Not a post about French cuisine.

It’s cold and snowing, so NATURALLY I’ve been huddling over a warm computer looking at food porn.

Here’s a recipe that combines three of my favorite edibles: beefiness, vegan food, and stout. About.com has an AWESOME collection of vegan/vegetarian food, and this mock-beef Guiness stew looks dee-vine. I know how to make seitan, so now all I need to do is drop by Point Blank and pick up a bottle of Guiness.

Here’s another one that looks luscious from Cupcakes And Kale Chips: Cauli-Tots — like Tater Tots, only WITH CAULIFLOWER! Which we LOVE!

Joanne Eats Well With Others looks a little fancy-schmancy for me, but I enjoy fantasizing that I might actually toast pita croutons and stuff, and the pictures are GORGEOUS.

Finally, there’s Alberta Ross’ delightful blog, did you ever kiss a frog? especially this post about her approach to gardening.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go look at more food. OM-nom-nom-nom!

A WRITING PROMPT FOR YOU: Does your main character like to look at food? Jane, I KNOW Callie does, especially if it’s handsome. ~grin~

I have to admit to a slight disappointment, here – at my age, I’m not so coy as to kiss frogs. I’d rather nibble they tiny legs. I forgot for a second you were vegetarian and, coming off the caviar post, and all, thought I might find a good recipe for jambes de grenouille, or something. (Enough butter and garlic, and you can’t go wrong.)

I have never kissed a frog. I have wished a couple of “princes” would turn INTO frogs.

LOL! I’m not vegetarian or vegan, just mostly so. If a frog deep-fries its legs and sticks ’em in my mouth, I can nibble with the best of ’em. The only frog I care to kiss is Jean Reno.

Open a window on the opposite side of the stove from the smoke alarm and stick a fan in, blowing out. That’s your only hope.

Shame on you all – nibbling on frog’s legs – no wonder there is a dearth of frogs turning into royalty!!:) they say one should never go food shopping on an empty stomach and so I shouldn’t look at these sites when hungry – nice receipes – so bad for one – so going on my ‘must do list’:) thank you

Happy to hook somebody else do you the favor of pointing them out. As for the one-legged frogs not turning into royalty: they all run away to be pirates.

Hi, Cathy! ~waves~ I want some of those ladies to come over and fix me some yums. When I make it, it never looks as good as when they make it!
