Welcome to Friday Recommends, the day of the week when I make up some nonsense headline recommend web sites and products and so on.
First, RePURPOSED:
RePURPOSED is a group of folks who make stuff out of old stuff (mostly donated or bought at thrift stores) and give the profits to charities. Like The Exodus Road and Make Way Partners, both of which work to free trafficked humans — yes, that still goes on, even today. All over the world. ALL OVER THE WORLD.
Now, did you ever feel like ranting, but were afraid to be That Person? Fear no more. The beautiful and articulate and seriously pissed Terrye Toombs has got you covered. Go read her Asshat Rants and cheer her on.
Want to do some good without spending a cent? Go to Greater Good. Every day, there’s a button you can click to donate a micro amount — free to you — to a cause. The donation is made by advertisers who pay for the privilege of flashing their ads in front of your eyeballs. You can go down the line and donate to the Greater Good cause, then Hunger, Breast Cancer, Animals, Veterans, Autism, Alzheimer’s, Diabetes, Literacy, and the Rain Forest.
Finally, I’m proud to announce that I am the proud owner of a nearly new car. Here is a picture.

She’s a Nissan Versa. Black interior, too. *happy sigh*
A WRITING PROMPT FOR YOU: What color is your main character’s car/carriage/horse/dragon?

August 16, 2014 at 10:30amNIce little car!
Beware tho, that the Versa, like the Sentra, has an Achilles heel: The rear bumper only covers the center of the back, the rest is plastic. A direct head-on rear accident, and you are safe.
But a hit to either the left or right rear quarter, though, and there is no metal in the corners at the back. The car will die to save you. It does not take much of an accident to have a wreck. Mast Feb, my low speed, parking lot fender bender on ice, destroyed my little Nissan Sentra. Almost $6000 damage to the car. The Insurance company elected not to repair, and gave me a little over $6 grand, and said goodbye. So beware of that. Imagine what a high speed accident would do….
You’ll be OK, but the car is trasheed! So avoid idiots and morons,

August 16, 2014 at 10:41am“Avoid idiots and morons”? So I can’t drive at all, then? Pete, I’m getting all teary-eyed, thinking about The Brave Little Nissan who would die to save me. It makes me feel like I should bury it in the back yard with the cats. ~sniff~ Thanks for the warning, though.

August 16, 2014 at 11:16amTis a simple matter of driving defensively, and avoiding rear quarter accidents. And also be careful in icy, poorly maintained parking lots! Otherwise, you should be fine. My sister drives hers all over the farm. (I do not recommend this!)
