Mom Then and Now and Then #TBT

Mom is in rehab — NO, not that kind of rehab, the been-in-the-hospital-need-to-build-up-strength kind!

So I have some pictures to share.

Here’s Mom in 1950, when she was pregnant with me. It was given to me by my husband’s eldest sister, who was in Mom’s mother’s Sunday School class.

Mom 1950

Mom 1950Isn’t that cool? Isn’t she pretty?

Here she was yesterday. This is the first selfie she’s ever taken. You can see the concentration; she was saying, “This button here?”

Love you, Mom! Can’t wait to have you home!

A WRITING PROMPT FOR YOU: What’s the silliest thing you remember your mother doing? Jane, I know you’ll have a good one!

Thank you, dear Sister! She’s pretty tough. She started her stay on Tuesday, and she’s already wanting the Physical Therapist to clear her for walking alone so she can go visit some fellow church members who are permanent residents of the facility. 🙂

    Hi, Momma G!
Get back home soon! Hope you feel better already!

The funniest thing Mom ever did, I can’t exactly tell. Yes, it involved tequila. Okay, and the scond funniest thing involved rapping and a fan. (Marian, I’ll tell you later.)

The third funniest thing is when she tried to open the ravioli can on her own. I got home, and there was this can sitting on the counter. Beside it was an array of can openers. I hadn’t even known we possessed that many, maybe 10 in all. Mom had applied every single one to that darned can, and the poor metal thing showed it. It had been stabbed, punctured, scraped, prized, and dented. But it had stubbornly stayed unopened. I guess the worst part was when I realized she’d stabbed it with one of those ancient can openers with the wicked stabber on the end. Happy to report no injuries had ensued.

I picture this stubb— determined girl, ready for her snack, going through the drawers in the kitchen, collecting her tools, applying them one at a time. Getting down on that there can! But no luck. I suppose the funniest thing, despite how funny the concept of trying to attack a can without the proper stuff, had to have been my face as I surveyed the scene and it gradually dawned on me what had gone down. A little prayer was said at the escaped peril, and then I got to laugh. 😉
