Nerissa Needs Nobody @AprilA2Z

That isn’t true, what she said. It isn’t true that I need nobody. I always wanted somebody to belong with, not somebody I belonged to, and somebody who belonged with me. When you grow up as a slave, and every day they tell you they’ll sell you for dog’s meat if you don’t bring them more money and they don’t care how you get it, you want to feel safe, you know?

I learned early how to get along without anybody but myself, but I always wanted somebody. That’s how I can always tell. I can always tell when a person is the kind you can trust or not. Sometimes they can’t tell, themselves, and sometimes they don’t want anybody to trust them, but I can always tell.

Like that cat I made friends with on the beach. He thought he hated me, but I knew better. I knew.

This is April A-to-Z, so maybe you could go visit Notes Along the Way. Monti is an artist, and she’s painting beautiful pictures all month!

Sage 3cNerissa — and the cat — are featured in the SAGE fantasy trilogy, available through independent booksellers via Indiebound and at Amazon in print and electronic versions.

A WRITING PROMPT FOR YOU: Is your main character at all needy? Or not? Why or why not? How does that affect them?

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.

    Good post and prompt.
I suppose the question might actually be:
Just HOW needy is one’s character?
Always a good query when writing vampire fiction, eh?

It’s officially the second half of A to Z. Time to catch that second wind, rest up on Sunday, then it’s that mad dash toward the finish line!
