Surprised?
You thought I was dead, didn’t you? So did I, but … well, listen to today’s guest character from Mom’s fantasy trilogy, SAGE.
~*~
Hello, my ducks, my dears! My human name was Verrina beren Una, but you may call me Grandmoder. That’s Grandmother, in your language.
If you’ve read THE FALL OF ONAGROS, BARGAIN WITH FATE, and SILVER AND IRON, the books of the SAGE fantasy trilogy, you know that I was once a woman and am now a dragon. You also know that people who follow the Way so that they detach themselves from fear and desire can be translated into dragons, which is what happened to me.
What you don’t know is that the same thing can happen to animals — primarily cats.
My dear friend Katya was once a cat named Tiffany, who belonged to Marian Allen. Tiffany lived 19 years before she died as a cat. Neither she nor Marian were ready to say goodbye to each other, so she came back as a stray gray kitten; Marian welcomed her back and recognized her almost immediately. Katya lived until she was 14 this time. She wanted to come back to Marian again, but she heard there were two elderly cats who needed a home, so she arranged for Marian to find out about them. Because of her generosity in giving up her place, she joined me as a dragon.
She’s quite good at it.
She tells me she plans to appear to Marian often this summer in the form of a blue-tailed skink. Marian has always loved those, and now she knows why.
Please go visit Varan Bhaat on this last Saturday of the A-to-Z challenge for some wonderful recipes!

Mom is smile-weeping. I can’t wait for her to see me this summer!
Those books Grandmoder was talking about are available through Indiebound and at Amazon in print and electronic versions.

April 25, 2015 at 9:58pmThat is an interesting prompt with the pet dying and coming back as another species. I would hope if that did happen that the pet would come back in a species that would be friendly 🙂

April 26, 2015 at 7:47amKatya was always “pet me / don’t touch me / pet me / don’t touch me”. Blue-tailed skinks make me inordinately happy, just to SEE, and that’s probably friendly enough. 🙂

April 25, 2015 at 4:05pmThey’ve always been magical to me, Monti! I wish they would be my friends, instead of running away. 🙂

I think Tootsie would come back as a boss.

Marian Allen
April 25, 2015 at 1:27pmTootsie LOVED you! She would be the boss you WANTED to have. She would be the boss nobody could get along with except you, and they would all be coming to you with their problems and begging you to intercede.
