Solarpunk Wolves Breaking Door Nails #FridayRecommends

Friday RecommendsDid you know that Solarpunk is a thing? Apparently, it’s a thing! It’s positive, optimistic, makes use of renewable energies like sun and wind, and is totally a thing! M. Pax posted about it, she having a short story in a Solarpunk anthology coming October 2015. Are we there yet? ‘Cause I wants it, Precious!!

My second-favorite anthropologist (my first-favorite being, of course, Sara Marian), Barbara J. King, interviewed Carl Safina on his work with animal cognition and emotion. She posted the result at NPR’s Cosmos and Culture, which I recommend repeatedly.

At Imaginarium this past weekend, I had the delight of sitting on a panel with Teresa J. Reasor. Teresa writes books with sex in, although that isn’t what they’re about, they just have it in, so I’ll be hesitant to read them. I have no objection to sex, you understand, I just don’t like to read about it. ANYWAY, she talked about her plots and ye gods and little fishes this woman has enough imagination to blow us all out of the water! Wonderful, fabulous blurbs! Go read them. The ones after the SEALS Team ones, particularly, although she writes a damn fine blurb for a romantic action suspense, too.

Dan Antion’s No Facilities is always good, but his Pump House Doors post this week was particularly fine. Between the photographs, the text, and the deductive reasoning, I promise that you can’t go wrong. Okay, I’ve got to stop pimping Dan’s blog or nobody will want to come here anymore!

My “son”, writer John F. Allen‘s, wife makes nail polish! Okay, he’s my “son” because his name is John Allen. When Sara was a wee wacko, she had an inflatable T Rex; she named him John Allen, and claimed he was her brother. She dragged him around until she popped a seam, which we couldn’t repair. So she tacked him to her bedroom wall and continued to claim kin. So John is my son. ANYWAY, his wife makes nail polish under the name of AkiraLacquer. Nail polish, y’all! You know how I am about nail polish! She made a custom polish for him and one for R. J. Sullivan, and I’m talking to her about one for me. ~dancing~

Well, kids, that should keep you busy for a while! Me, I’m gearing up for tomorrow’s Kentuckiana Authors Book Blitz at the Louisville Palace. Y’all come!

A WRITING PROMPT FOR YOU: Take a picture of a door and make up a story about it.

About

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.
