CoryDoors — The Artisan Center #ThursdayDoors

Happy Thanksgiving, to them as celebrates it. To them as don’t — Happy Thursday!

One thing I’m thankful for is The Artisan Center. How many hick burgs like this one have an art gallery in the middle of it, I wonder?

ArtisanDoorI stopped by there last Thursday to take these pictures, and met the brand-new Gallery Director, Nicki Asberry. She let me poke around and take some pictures.

There’s a big gallery-room just inside the door, and another just off the hall. Here’s the one off the hall.

ArtisanGalleryAs you can see, there’s painting, sculpture, woodcraft, photographs, jewelry…. They even have books by the Southern Indiana Writers, including stories by moi! They have classes, exhibitions, competitions, and celebrations. It’s pretty amazing.

That sculpture in the middle doesn’t look very pretty, but it’s freakin’ gorgeous! It’s a copper-and-glass-beads piece by Leah Porter. Here’s a closer look, which also doesn’t do it justice.

ArtisanLeahI snapped a pic of these chairs on the way out.

ArtisanChairsI’m not sure if the entire chairs are crafted, or just the woven bits. I know the little stool is crafted.

Awesome place, always filled with beauty, interest, and often with local music, too.

A WRITING PROMPT FOR YOU: A character goes to an art gallery.

About

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.

I wish I had posted more pictures of the art, but I felt odd taking pictures of other people’s work, you know? When you come to Corydon, we’ll take a grand tour!

It’s wonderful to be able to just pop in and see what’s new. And I can actually afford some of the art, so that’s a bonus. 🙂

That’s an unusual shape for a door! I like it. Interesting artwork and sculpture as well.

I like odd-shaped doors and windows. You don’t find much beyond plain rectangles these days, since anything that doesn’t fit mass production is expensive. So I treasure them when I find them. 🙂
