Stagestop #FoundPoem

There was a campground around here called Stagestop that closed due to declining use. This caller to our local paper’s phone line offers up a cri de coeur.

STAGESTOP

by Anonymous Caller

Stagestop, what happened?

I thought we was going
to open it this year.
It is being more maintained
and kept up better
now that the public is not using it.

I am a taxpayer.

I am 3/4 of the people
that are not
rift-raft.RiftRaft
I should be able to use our Stagestop.

I need it
for the access to the river
that we pay taxes on
that the whole Southern Indiana
and state people
pay taxes on
our state land.

I should be able to use our Stagestop.
Why do some people get to use it
and the public not?
Can somebody please help me figure this out?
Why is our Stagestop closed?

Somebody needs to open the gate
and let the public go in
and see how well it’s being
took care of now.

Float down the river;
get off your boat;
look around.
It’s took care of better
now that the residents don’t get to use it,
only the state.
This does not make sense to me.
I’m sorry.

I’m a taxpayer.

I should be able to use Stagestop.

An’ that’s all I got to say about that.

I’m posting today at Fatal Foodies about corn cakes.

I’m not. I’ve found my calling: to do as little actual work as possible while appearing to be very busy. I find it very rewarding.

We have some state attractions that are closed due to budgetary constraints, but I’m not aware of any being used by the state. I’m gonna check though…

If you do, and you write a letter about it, feel free to copy Anonymous Caller’s.

This was fun, in a mean sort of way. I’m sorry the gentleman (it was a man, was it not?) can’t camp where he wants to when he wants to. The requirements of the many often do that to individuals. The economics can be boggling to keep camping open at a state park. I didn’t see him volunteering. But it is hard to feel you’re not getting value out of your own taxes in your own back yard.
