Ami Upstairs #Caturday

Amidala speaking.

There were a couple of days of snow last week, with much worse predicted that we actually had. Because she didn’t want to have to worry about Granny, MaMA spent a couple of nights up there.

While she was away, Charles fed me. He also decided not to make me sleep in the basement anymore. He claimed it was because he couldn’t get me to go down there, but I think he was lonely.

Now MaMA is back, and I still sleep upstairs. On her. Well, she’s warm and soft!

Sometimes I sleep next to her.

AmiNextSometimes I sleep on her feet.

AmiFootMaMA allows it, because cats comfort her. I’m happy to contribute my little bit to her emotional well-being, which is big of me, considering that she hasn’t bathed me in months.

I give her the biggest hints I can: I meow outside the bathroom door when I hear water running. If she lets me in, I do this.

I can haz baff?
I can haz baff?

But she just says it’s too cold now, and she’ll bathe me when the weather warms up. What am I supposed to do in the meantime? Use my tongue? ~ShakingMyHead~

Bathe Goober? Squirrel? nu-unh. First I’d have to fund a defense initiative to trim their claws. And then….Well, they use their tongues to keep up appearances pretty well anyway. Whew. Dodged a bullet..er..swordlike ripping… You get the idea.

    Ami,
    Good job, girl!
Guess who’s been cuddling with me lately. Goober. At night. While doing the big purr. It’s been great.
Oh, and keep up the good work, baby kitty. Your MaMA appreciates you!

Ami’s hair is still growing out, but she never grooms. She’s staying clean, but I don’t know how. Maybe we have mice in the basement, and they’re her stylists or something.

The dog gets regular baths. The cats are no fan of the tub.

I didn’t know cats took baths! Obviously, I’m not a cat person, but I thought cats hated water? Wow, I learn something new every day!

Cats generally do hate water, and they generally clean themselves. Sometimes, though, cats with long hair need help, and older cats sometimes stop grooming. In those cases, I help ’em out. But I never saw cats who ASKED for baths until I adopted Amidala and the late Munchkin.

Meeka, she certainly grumbled the time I gave her one, but she’s looking for one now. Of course, I don’t put cats IN water, just in the tub and pour warm water over them gently while I hold one of their legs in place. It takes a lot of prep work so I can do it all one-handed, but it goes quickly. Then I wrap her in a towel and we snuggle. 🙂

@Marian Allen – Holding one leg…only??? The one time I tried to bathe a cat I had scratches to both elbows for weeks. I think you must have the ‘touch’. 🙂

I think it helps to not put them IN the water. I usually start bathing them occasionally when they’re kittens, training them for a time when I might HAVE to do it. Ami and Munchkin, although I adopted them when they were already elderly, seemed accustomed to it, and even to like it!

lol – I’ll take your word for it. I’m too much of a coward to try again. 🙂
