Amidala’s Walkabout #Caturday

the queenAmidala speaking.

I went out! Charles was working outside, and left the basement door up. MaMA told me not to go out, and I told her I wouldn’t but, as soon as she turned her back, out I went! Charles shooed me back in, but he went off to do whatever he was doing, and out I went again!

I didn’t go far, actually, just far enough to eat some grass so I could come in and quirp it up on the basement floor. I tried to make it upstairs to the carpet, but it all came up before I could get there. I know MaMA and Charles were disappointed; they get so excited when I quirp on the carpet for them!

Then I went out AGAIN! Hahaha!

When Charles and MaMA’s #3 daughter came to pick up her younger son, as she was leaving she said, “Is the cat supposed to be outside?” because I was on the porch looking in the door.

MaMA was so upset, she didn’t even stop to take a picture; she just opened the door so I could come in.

However …. She DID have her camera when I went out again yesterday! I almost got back into the basement before she got the evidence on me. I had been all the way over there at the edge of the woods! So daring!

amioutAll I wanted to do is help her look for mushrooms. She found a few, but not as many as the day before yesterday. She claims it’s because she found almost all of them then, but I think it’s because she didn’t have me to help her.

mushroomsMy favorite place, though, is on the couch next to MaMA. So here’s a picture of me NOT outside.

    Ami, Ami, Ami!

    What a naughty, adventurous girl!
It just smells so good outside right now, doesn’t it? Yum!

My boy Blackjack went on a SIX WEEKS LONG walkabout! I had to take up jogging so I could cover more territory looking for him. I’m glad I kept looking, though, because I had just put up another sign in a new place, he had just walked into these people’s house, and then they walked into the store and read the sign. Whew! What a coincidence! Got him back, though. Yay!

Just remember which direction home is, and you’ll be OK.

Six weeks?? I kind of remember that. I had pretty much given up on him. But Mama Jane never gave up! And it paid off! What a happy ending! ๐Ÿ™‚

We’ve always had inside cats. We let them out on the (enclosed) porch, but that’s it. We had one, our first cat, who would sneak out, get stuck in a tree and then claw the crap out of me as I rescued him.

Those enclosed porches are great, aren’t they? Amidala would love to have one. I’ve never gone up a tree after a cat; they always get down by themselves eventually. My mother says, “You’ve never seen a cat skeleton in a tree, have you?”

-grin- Be careful, Ami! I saw a young fox in our garden this morning. I don’t think it could eat the dog and it certainly couldn’t eat Buffa, but you never know. Do you have foxes over there or bigger beasties?

Oh, Meeka, there are foxes in this general area, although I’ve never seen one right around here. We’ve heard coyotes, though, so it worries me for Ami to go walkabout. I’m more worried about things smaller than she is, though: mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas.

I can understand the fleas, further north we have nasty fleas that burrow in, but mosquitoes and fleas? Apologies, I know next to nothing about the US.

Ticks are bloodsucking insects that burrow in and feed on blood, then drop off and lay eggs that hatch out into MORE bloodsucking insects. Mosquitoes are little, quick, flying insects with long, sharp noses that stick those needle noses into your skin and suck out blood. They can carry all kinds of inconvenient and/or deadly diseases, including heartworm, which can go undiagnosed in a cat until the cat keels over dead, which is what happened to my mother’s late boy-cat. Now we buy heartworm preventive medicine for our cats! Fleas are tiny bloodsucking insects that can hop like nobody’s business. They bite and make you itch, and make your cat itch. If one of them is full of intestinal parasite eggs and you or your cat accidentally swallows one, you or your cat can get those parasites which hatch out INSIDE you or your cat. So, yeah, I try to keep my cat INSIDE!!!! Hope you aren’t reading this over a hearty meal….

    Yo, Ami!

Great pictures, but going outside, unsupervised, ain’t wise when you have no experience.

Nikita, in the glory days of his youth, got stuck outside all day, once, and did a blog post about it….and never ventured out again, hee, hee!

Sneakers likes to try to dash past Daddy Kiril to run around outside, but rarely succeeds as young Friday always gets out first and daddy shuts the door to go after her.

She runs around on the walk and in the grass in front of our apt and rolls around before daddy picks her up and she loudly protests as they return to the apt.

I tell her to stop doing it as she could get hurt, but so far she won’t listen.

Oh, Miss Elvira, maybe she’ll listen to you; she certainly won’t listen to me! At least she comes when she’s called, instead of running away and laughing, the way some cats do! She grew up in the suburbs and doesn’t know about the cat-eating critters that live in the woods. Her late brother Munchkin ran away once and did NOT come when I called him, but I found him curled up in the dog house on our #1 daughter’s porch. ๐Ÿ™‚
