My mom has mild dementia, which means she forgets a little bit sometimes. I’m like, “Welcome to the club.” But, of course, it’s more erratic and more troublesome with her, especially since she always had such a fantastic memory.
But we cope.
Her doctor is helping me keep Mom as independent as possible while still overseeing her enough to keep her safe. I set up her daily meds in the morning and give her her first batch at 9:00 am. I’m usually there at 7:00 pm for that batch and stay until the last batch at 9:00 pm. That just leaves the ones at 3:00 pm for her to do herself.
She was forgetting them, even when I called to remind her. So we came up with this, which, plus a call just before 3:00, seems to be doing the trick.
I’m posting today at Fatal Foodies on the topic of goose eggs.

You are walking down a path I hope to avoid. I’m glad you can find fun ways to help your mother.

I told Mom this why she had such a scatterbrained child: so I could use the memory tricks she taught me to help her in turn. 🙂

Charming coping mech.
Mom and I had interesting events concerning clothes, unauthorized outings, and outhouses. Girl just kept on going for it, though. A real trooper. I know your mom is, too.

Oh, your mom was a hoot-and-a-half! What a bright, lively, inventive mind she had, all the way through! You should write a book about her adventures. THE ADVENTURES OF JOSIE. It makes me joy-cry just to think of it. <3
