MomGoth comes here every morning to give Mom her morning medicine, to feed me, to feed the birds and squirrels, and to do different tasky things. I like for her to leave the front door open so I can lie on the rug and look out through the storm door.
The other day, I took the sphinx position, flicking my ears and staring. MomGoth said, “Why don’t you come look at the birds and squirrels? They’re over here, frisking and eating.”
I still maintained my position, so she came over to see what I was staring at.
Can you see it? It was a tiny, dull-colored butterfly. She was telling me all about how stupid birds are. We laughed because they were over on the side porch eating dry food when a juicy little butterfly stood just around the corner. She turned all the way around so I could admire her camouflage, making her look like a crumb of dried leaf.
MomGoth apologized for chasing her away, but needed to open the door to water the outside plant.
I haven’t seen my fluttery friend again. I hope it’s because she’s busy having fun, and not that one of those stupid birds got lucky and caught her. Do you think she’s okay? I think so. I just feel it, somehow.
A WRITING PROMPT FOR ANIMALS: Do you have friends of other species? Besides people, I mean.

August 13, 2016 at 8:12amIt’s always fun to imagine what the cats are thinking when they look out at the “wild” animals.

August 13, 2016 at 8:32amI always wondered what Blackjack’s other names were, what his previous people had named him before he found me. Of course, he never said, the sly boy.
Sweetie Pie, I like watching the butterflies, too. We either have a bunch of those yellow, tigertail ones, or….we just have ONE that comes by bunches of times and flies all over the place, showing off his beauties.

August 14, 2016 at 1:08pmMaybe his name was always Blackjack. Maybe everybody he kept company with said, “I think I’ll call you Blackjack.” IT’S POSSIBLE.

August 13, 2016 at 2:29pmFunny how they can fixate so long. I imagine that’s what they think of us when we watch television.
My older male cat has been preforming a strange ritual in the evening. He climbs up to the top of the left bookcase, where there’s a clearing, and then he bats at the curtains. He’s talking to us, trying to tell us things, but we can’t understand with our human ears and we can’t see anything with our human eyes. I’ve said as much, but I guess he doesn’t understand me either. “Catticus, no one knows what you want.” Still, he does it several nights a week. *shrug*
I suppose he might want the window open, but you and I both know it’s too hot and steamy for that lately!

August 14, 2016 at 1:10pmWAY too hot and steamy for kitties! Maybe the curtain is blocking his view?

August 15, 2016 at 8:26amMaybe. One of these days, I’ll get a sequence of photos. There’s about a foot between the shelf and the window. Obviously The Mister should build him a bridge π
