O’Shea’s Jeffersonville #ThursdayDoors

Here are some more pictures from our foray to Jeffersonville, Indiana.

We were headed to Schimpff’s. That Coca-Cola sign was the glow of the Holy Grail.

jeffschimpffsIT WAS CLOSED!

So we wandered disconsolately onward and came to O’Shea’s. But the door didn’t say O’Shea’s.

jeffosheasThat’s because the building the pub is in is a restored dry goods store. They had a picture of what it originally looked like on the wall.

jeffosheasbeforeThe sign next to it told about it.

jeffosheashmfH. Monroe Frank
Mr. Frank built this two story Victorian and opened Frank’s Dry Goods Store in 1897. Mr. Frank is pictured standing proudly in front of his store; he and his family lived on the second floor. We’re proud to pay homage to Mr. Frank, and hopefully we’ve restored this beautiful building to Mr. Frank’s liking.
Cheers, O’Shea’s

Pretty cool, eh?

Oh, here’s the interior. Because Guinness.

jeffosheasinsideNo, I drank swate tay … I mean sweet tea, since I was selling books, and I didn’t want to set them afire with my breff.

But, on the other hand, I did have a half-order of fish and chips.

jeffosheashalfA. Half. Order.

And I wandered around snapping doors. I don’t know if they found these doors in the building, or if they got them from an architectural salvage company or what, but I loved them.

Door to the back of the bar.

jeffosheasdividerNext time we hit Jeffersonville, I hope we can go to Schimpff’s, but I sure didn’t regret discovering O’Shea’s!

    Gorgeous! Beautiful! Fun!

That “Half” order of fries (with a few planks of fish) looks exactly like one of those eagle cam shots of a huge old eagle nest. After takeout. Parents just waitin’ to get going on them eggs. No, wait! I think I might see a little baby eagle beak peeking out in the back…………..?

It wouldn’t help, Norm. My bidniss partner ordered a salad, and it was almost as big as the table! Definitely a place to go when you want to carry home enough leftovers for another meal.

Nice little stroll! WOW, that half order was HUGE! A Guinness would have been good with that meal. Looked yummy though. The doors are great. I’m glad Mr. Frank’s house/store found new life.

According to their website, there are three O’Shea’s locations in the area, and all of them are in renovated old buildings. That alone makes me love them!

I love the O’Shea’s door and the way doors are used inside for other things. What a half portion! I think I’d definitely need a Guinness to help it all get down. As for sweet tea, I like the latter half, but not the first. I take my tea straight up! ๐Ÿ™‚

What a great place. I love how they recycled the doors, that gave me a few ideas for the house we’re renovating. Thanks Marian. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m with the crowd on this, that’s half an order? Yikes. Greta doors and I like the story and the name on the door. Interesting places like this have a charm that the big chains will never be able to figure out.

That’s why small businesses who know how to handle the business end of things without losing their quirky humanity will prevail.

Did they also do a remodeling job on the second story? On the original photo it looked like a nice building. Hope you sold some books…had the same reaction: half an order??

I didn’t see the second story. They just opened this past spring, so I suspect the second story is still a work in progress.

We did sell some books, thank you! We also met a lot of friends in the writing business — ones we already knew and ones we met for the first time but will see at future events. Talked to a lot of nice people who were friendly whether they bought from us or not. Helped newbies get up to speed and picked up tips from older hands. Had a great time all around. ๐Ÿ™‚
