I’m back to my old tricks of posting about any old thing and squeezing a kinda sorta door into it. This time it’s the Yamato Japanese Steakhouse that just moved into town. I mean — A JAPANESE STEAKHOUSE!! IN HICKSVILLE!!! I’m tellin’ you what: If we get any more cultured, we’ll all have to change our names to Pearl.
Doesn’t look too promising.
Highly visible and very large fire extinguisher: a good sign, or a bad sign?
Let’s get a closer look at that hanging over the DOORWAY to the necessary facilities. Because cats.
Ah, a door, at last! Kinda sorta.
And food. This is a Bento lunch. A Bento box is a box or dish with compartments so your one food won’t touch your other food. Apparently, Japanese folks are as picky as American folks.
That’s California sushi rolls, fried rice, a spring role, teriyaki steak and veg, miso soup, and a salad, with an appetizer of fried dumplings, because you can never have too much grease and starch. The pink and green thing in the little compartment in the center of the box is ginger and wasabi. Ick.
I’ve been to this place three times now, and the food was stellar every time. The outside door is still boring, alas.
Oh! And on the way home! This!
What’s a visit to a Japanese restaurant, without a crane? Right? Right?
This has been a pitiful shadow of the magnificent Norm Frampton’s Thursday Doors link-up. Visit his blog, look at his marvelous pictures, and click on the little blue froggie link to see some REAL Thursday Doors posts.
A WRITING PROMPT FOR YOU: Something is behind a door that is not what the door would lead one to assume from its appearance.

October 6, 2016 at 6:23pmLIKE again.
I do so love a good Japanese meal 🙂 The cats are a nice touch and I think the big, visible fire extinguisher is a plus!

October 6, 2016 at 2:21pmYeah that kinda fancy pants dining ain’t fer everyone.
Reminds me of when we took my Mom to Benihana’s once for her birthday. She didn’t like the ‘cook showing off’ so much, and the food wasn’t ‘Chinese enough’ 😀

October 6, 2016 at 9:38amJust an interesting aside about bento boxes. “Bento” means “box” in Japanese, so when we say bento box, we’re really saying “box box.” I gleaned this gem from our younger daughter, who took Japanese lessons for a long time.

October 6, 2016 at 10:20amJanet, I don’t know WHAT goes with my Like button sometimes! I don’t change any settings, but it goes and comes, goes and comes. Maybe it’s on Slow Blink or something….

October 6, 2016 at 10:19amAh! Funny! Like the always-to-be-treasured time a waitress asked me if I wanted my mashed potatoes with the au jus gravy of the day du jour.

October 6, 2016 at 9:38amRemember our epic visit to Benihana’s on my 30th birthday? You guys got caught in the Derby Day traffic, and I waited for you at the bar. I got carded, and the bartender gave me free drinks the rest of the evening. Yum.
The food was good, too!

October 6, 2016 at 10:18amYES! And so was the floor show. Juggling the salt and pepper mills. Tossing food into diners’ mouths. You were amazing. 😉 😀
