The Harrying of Sweetie Pie #Caturday

Friday RecommendsSweetie Pie Turner here, MomGoth’s Mom’s cat.

I’ve been harried from pillar to post this month, especially this week. Here’s the story:

A few weeks ago, MomGoth smelled a bad smell in the laundry room. When she investigated, she found a dead mouse IN THE WASHING MACHINE. Clean, but dead.

Ever since then, I’ve been bitten to pieces. MomGoth inspected, and found me covered with fleas!

She took me to the mean old vet, and he shaved me here and shaved me there, drew blood, and put medicine on my neck on the shaven place.

sweetieshavedHe said my blood tattled on me and said I have a urinary tract infection, whatever that means, and gave MomGoth two boxes of stuff that she put in the refrigerator as well as more flea medicine. I was afraid to tell him that it hurts when I pee. No telling what he would have done, then!

sweetiemedsHe told MomGoth to squirt some nasty cold white stuff into my mouth twice a day and run the loud thing every day for a month. I hate the loud thing!

very loud! pokes under things!
very loud! pokes under things!

I tried to hide in the closet under Mom’s blouses. The loud thing found me.

sweetieclosetI tried to hide under the couch. The loud thing found me!

sweetiecouchThere’s still more than three weeks to go! I’m bexhausted!

    Poor Sweetie Pie 🙁

I think the worst thing about the medicine is the fact that it’s cold. Especially the stuff that goes in their ears. I would bite you if you put cold gop in my ears.

If I put cold gop in your ears, I would EXPECT to be bitten. Sweetie Pie is surprisingly good about this. She resists, but she doesn’t scratch or bite. I’m grateful.

    Poor Sweetie Pie!
This is indeed a rough time!
I bet you got those little pests on your last runabout outside!

Biting insects generally don’t like me, so I am always behind the deal on finding out They’re Heeeerre!

She had them before that Great Escape, Jane. I truly suspect the mouse. The poor little bastard is dead and can’t hire a lawyer, so I’m pointing the finger in that direction.

We got fleas, I’m pretty sure, with a couch we bought second hand for the previous house.

We realized that every time we sat there, our lower legs would get bites. Finally, we bombed the house with the flea-killer thing. No more fleas.

That was in 1980 – I bet the insecticides used then were FAR more potent – and not used now. And I still remember: flea bites hurt, and itch, and you wreck your skin scratching at them.

The cat is lucky you know what to do. And do it. Cat probably itches, too.

Yes, insecticides used to be a lot more toxic than they are now. I used to get this orange peel stuff to rinse the cats in that killed fleas DEAD, but then we learned it was also toxic to cats! No more of that. Sweetie Pie is getting very creative in finding places to get away from new fleas, which means I have new places I have to vacuum! I do sympathize, though, because fleas will bite people if they run out of cats, and the bites do hurt and inch.

Ah, Sweetie Pie. 🙁 Those fleas are horrible beasts, and thank you for reminding me that my kids will need their own medicine very soon. Hope the you-know-what clears up soon. Hugs from Buffa and Golli. Mogi sends hugs too but as she’s a dog I didn’t think you’d want those.

Sweetie Pie is happy to take hugs from dogs, as long as it’s virtual. Her first bestie was a dog, but she made an exception for him. 🙂

My cats had dogs for nannies when they were kittens so they’re happy to have Mogi around. Her bark keeps the other neighbourhood cats away and she’s so small she’s no competition to /them/. Mogi = chihuahua cross who thinks she’s a real dog. 🙂
