It’s Not Too Late To Speak To Male/Female Human Without Throwing Rocks #FridayRecommends

Friday RecommendsLong title, eh? Lotta good stuff on the ‘net this week.

First, “Too Late” is a prequel to Alicia Butcher Ehrhardt’s wonderful PRIDE’S CHILDREN. It’s free on her blog!

As much as I love PRIDE’S CHILDREN? That’s how much I hate fora. I never met a forum I could navigate comfortably. It’s like one of those dreams, where you’re supposed to be in your own house, but none of the rooms lead to the rooms they’re supposed to lead to, or the rooms swap places. Very surreal. Still, I just got Twitter-followed by Sprecn.com, which purports to be a site where people can discuss controversial subjects with courtesy:

Our motto is simple – “Free speech, with manners!” Sprecn.com is a discussion board community dedicated to the thoughtful exchange of diverse thoughts on scores of topics, from home and garden to conspiracy theories. We encourage our members from around the world to participate in a free expression of ideas, with civility that is too often missing from other discussion boards.

Refreshing, no?

My second-favorite anthropologist (Sara Marian Deurell is my favorite), Barbara J. King, has a review on NPR’s 13.7 blog of a book entitled TESTOSTERONE REX, which advances a theory that can use all the advancing it can get: that the male/female divide is a social construct, that even the hormonal biology and expression is, to some extent, culturally induced.

One word: Humans of New York. Okay, four words.

I don’t know about you, but I could use a little Buddhism inna morning. So I signed up with Tricycle for a Daily Dharma email to start the day off wif a li’l “compassion and humor.” Because my husband frowns on beer for breakfast.

A WRITING PROMPT FOR YOU: Write about collecting rocks.

That is kind of an interesting approach to a forum. Let us know how that works. As for me, I’ll confine my speaking-to-females to those who understand that most of the things I say that are offensive, aren’t what I meant to say.

Beer for breakfast? I had it a couple of times in my younger days. Once, over Corn Flakes. Actually, not that bad.

I’ve heard of young men having beer over corn flakes, but I thought it was just an urban legend. Now I know IT’S TRUE!

You just have to think about a young man’s refrigerator. Then ask yourself: “do I want to drink from that milk carton, or that beer bottle?”

It’s really not that hard of a decision 🙂

HONY is one of my very favorite things.
Oh how I wish the entire world knew how to discuss issues with manners, myself first.

Totally! I just publicly vented in November, and I feel it bubbling up again.
