Nunnlea House #ThursdayDoors

Went to another wedding. Always a bridesmaid, never a …. Oh, wait, I’ve never been a bridesmaid, and I have been a bride. Never mind.

ANYWAY, I went to this wedding, see, at the Nunnlea House in Louisville. The web site says the house was built in the 1850s and is on the Registry of Historic Places. “Nunnlea contains beautiful crystal chandeliers and a marble fireplace with the original mantle in every room. 141/2 foot ceilings, tall windows and floors of herringbone patterned oak add to the elegance.”

As we pulled up, a little rain fell from the lowering sky. Bad omen for a wedding, especially since the ceremony was out-of-doors.ย  It didn’t worry us, because these two kids are ca-RAY-zee about each other. At any rate, the sky cleared in time for the wedding.

The gallery shows some of the many doors (and stuff) of Nunnlea House, and the captions ‘splain the pics.

They had recorded music during the reception, which was broken up between all the fairly small rooms on the ground floor. Not particularly friendly, as family/friend groups tended to flock together, instead of our mingling and meeting one another.

HOWEVER, we lucked out and chose to sit in what turned out to be the place from which the music came. Not that it was any pleasure to shout over the music, but the most enchanting thing happened! A little girl, about four, ran into the room barefoot and began to dance. Her hair was flying, her dress was whirling, and she was alive with the music! Her mother teaches dance, so she probably has dancing in her blood. At any rate, she danced and danced. She invited all the guys to dance with her, and they did, even the shy ones. All except for the one closest to her age — he was having none of it. She didn’t care. She danced alone, when all the guys were worn out.

I deliberately didn’t take a picture of her. For one thing, I don’t put pictures of children on the internet. For another thing, I’m not entirely sure she would have shown up on film, she seemed so wonderfully otherworldly. But, the next day, this came across my Facebook feed, so I end by sharing it with you, in honor of our dancing fairy.

Thank you, child.

A WRITING PROMPT FOR YOU: A child dances with joyous abandon. Some are charmed, but one person is utterly disdainful. Why?

I like all the un-fancy parts best, Marian. Outbuildings and cellars, NICE!
Bridesmaidery is not my favorite. I hope that time in my life is over!

The un-fancy parts looked very solid and comforting. Like they would still be there and in good repair when the fancy bits were termite food. ๐Ÿ˜€

Sounds like a wonderful place to hold an important event.
Dancing little ones are a joy to behold. I don’t know when it is that we learn to be self conscious and start caring what others think, but your dancing four year-old stroy proves the point that true joy comes from not caring what others see and just embracing the moment ๐Ÿ˜€

Dancing is one of the things I miss the most, and the one I will work hardest to regain. It’s also good for exercise and balance and so many things related to motivation. I did gift it to Kary.

One of the scenes clearest in my memory is when Kary gets “caught” dancing. When I’m old and senile, I’ll probably remember it as happening to ME. ๐Ÿ™‚ So thank you for that!

It was a very pretty place for a very wonderful couple. The bride giggled nervously throughout the ceremony, and the groom just calmly grinned and hugged her with his eyes. You know how it is with some couples: They were solidly married in their hearts before the ceremony, so the ceremony was more like playing dress-up than a binding solemnity. It was so sweet, I wanted to go up and squish ’em both up in a big group hug!

You’re welcome! It was a magical experience, like the little girl was the spirit of Joy, itself.

It’s a pretty venue for a wedding! I liked the out buildings and the interior door shot.

There have been times when a really great song comes on the radio while I’m at a red light, and I’ve felt like cranking it up, getting out and dance around the car. I haven’t done it for fear of having the men in white coats pull up sirens blaring to cart me off to a padded cell. ๐Ÿ™
