Almost Wordless Almost Wednesday: Philosophy a la #LoveNikki

So, in this game, Love Nikki Dress UP Queen, you buy (with game money, not real money) or win pieces of clothing to recreate the game’s outfits, or put the pieces together to win contests or to just dress up your avatar. Each piece has qualities, with hearts signifying the strength of those qualities, and each piece has a description. Sometimes the descriptions get pretty … odd.

This one threw me. I thought they thought it extolled a desirable quality, and I went, “ExCUSE me?” Then I recognized it as the philosophy it is.

The description reads: “Life is a beautiful and luxurious gown that is crawled all over by fleas.”

I may like that better than Tom Lehrer‘s “Life is like a sewer: What you get out of it depends on what you put into it.”

On that note, my Fatal Foodies post this week shares one of Charlie’s favorite summertime supper dishes.

A WRITING PROMPT FOR YOU: A character uses an unusual expression of life outlook.

Sewers are dirty, regardless of what YOU put in them. Sorry, this one does NOT work for me. Especially not with ‘treasured,’ ‘prosperity,’ and ‘goddess’ added to the card. It pushes reality too far in one direction, and then snaps it too far back in the other, especially for modern people who are not used to fleas.

I understand reality, and unrealistic expectations, but words have nuance as well as meanings, and there must be a better way to teach this lesson. Or a lot more gradations in between.

    Shaking head, too.
