One Way To Write What You Know #amwriting

Look! God made a miracle! This post isn’t about my writing!

Okay, blog, no need for sarcasm.

I want to tell you about a book just published by Per Bastet Publications (okay, yes, that’s my publishing house, but I’m not talking about my own books, okay?): AT HOME ON A HORSE IN THE WOODS, by Janet Wolanin Alexander. Jan always dreamed of having horses in her life. When that dream finally came true, she found more than she’d imagined she would. Trail riding meant becoming part of a duo, with the other half of the partnership being a large, intuitive, intelligent but dependent animal. It opened her mind and heart. She learned, not only about her animal partner, but about nature, her spirituality, and her connection with all three.

Over the years, she wrote essays about her dreams and longing before horses were part of her life, about her experiences with trail riding and with caring for her charges.

AT HOME ON A HORSE IN THE WOODS is a collection of these essays, deeply felt and deeply known.

That’s a picture of Highlander, one of the horses we come to know through this book. AT HOME ON A HORSE IN THE WOODS is available on Amazon in print and for Kindle, and can be ordered through your friendly neighborhood brick-and-mortar with its ISBN of 1942166303.

In case you can’t tell, I really love this book! It does more than just tell the facts, entering Jan’s heart and imagination. It fills your heart and mind with the experience of being in the woods in all times and weathers, of sitting atop something so large and powerful, you understand that he only carries you because he agrees to do so. Since I, personally, would just as soon lock myself inside the house and observe nature through the window, and want to interact with nothing larger than human, I relish this virtual reality.

A WRITING PROMPT FOR YOU: Is there something you do or have done that you know so thoroughly you could bring it to life with words? It doesn’t have to be an “interesting” thing.

About

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.
