Today, I’m taking you on a short tour of Harrison Springs, the Long-Term Care facility where Mom is.
Pretty building.
Oh, and look at this: There are two sittin’ porches, one on each side of the doors. Here’s one.
Let’s have a look at those doors. How festive!
Nice lobby, with a safe fireplace. There are several of these in the facility, each decorated differently.
Now. Straight ahead is a dining room convenient to the residents of the nearest wing. The opening on the right, with the doors in it, leads to Mom’s wing.
We’re in that hall, with the main dining room on the left.
Ooooo!
I haven’t asked Mom’s permission to show you her room, so I won’t do that. One more picture of the place, though, and a story that goes with it.
All the wings and areas have names, reflecting Corydon. We used to have a popcorn industry here, so there’s a Popcorn Place or Way or something. There’s an Old Capitol this and an O’Bannon that. This coffee area is my favorite.
Jock Timberlake had a diner on a downtown corner in Corydon. I think it was established just after WWII. It served plate lunches, old-school, with items like meatloaf, spareribs and kraut with mashed potatoes, and his famous Saturday pork tenderloin. The name was Jock’s Lunch, but everybody called it Jocko’s. There have been many places in that location since Jocko retired, but none like it.
Of course, I can’t go without sharing a Narnia lamp for Joey. See if you can spot the Gothmobile.
This has been part of Norm Frampton’s Thursday Doors link-up. Head over to Norm’s blog, look at his gorgeous pictures, click on the blue frog link, and enter a world of doors!

December 7, 2017 at 9:19amI like the way these places take the time to make it a personal place and a nice place to live. It looks very much like the place my mom was living in Iowa. It felt like home and like a neighborhood. I think that’s a good feel.

December 7, 2017 at 10:25amI think so, too. I like it that they have lots of small sitting rooms, and that the decor isn’t exactly the same in all of them.

December 7, 2017 at 10:17amWelcoming doors indeed. That looks like one extra-tall Christmas tree. Must be lots of fun to get everyone involved in decorating it.

December 7, 2017 at 12:45pmThey have a hat/scarf/mitten tree, too, to benefit local kids who don’t have them. hats/scarves/mittens, not trees.

December 7, 2017 at 10:17amI dunno, Marian. As soon as I saw your picture attached to the FB announcement, I knew it was an institution. It screams that fact.Let’s hope these doors bring comfort, fun, and utility for your mom!

December 8, 2017 at 5:24pmSure, it looks like an official thing. Not trying to hide it. And, if I had any doubt, the nurses and aides and pills and stuff would probably give me a clue or two. 😉

December 7, 2017 at 1:22pmI do love a good porch, so two is twice as nice. As Dan said, it looks like a nice place, a place where the people who live there are cared about as well as for. I love popcorn, so living on a Popcorn street/way/avenue/blvd/? would be fun.

December 8, 2017 at 5:21pmAlmost every time I go in there, I smell popcorn. I need to find out where that’s coming from and smuggle some into my mouth.

December 7, 2017 at 5:30pmI’m with janet. I like porches that encourage resting in style. The wreaths on the front doors are pretty. They make the place look friendly, as does the decor on the inside of the building. Nice place.

December 8, 2017 at 5:22pmIt IS a nice place. And various residents have told me they love it there, and I’ve brought Mom to the right place.
