CoryDoors – Mom’s Room #ThursdayDoors

In case you don’t know, I’ve moved Mom to Harrison Springs “Health Campus” (aka nursing home). Lucky I did, too, because she had no sooner got there than she flipped into full-blown pneumonia. No, she didn’t get it because she went there, it just flowered after she arrived.

ANYWAY, she and I have decorated her room for Christmas, meaning she gave directions and I did the work. Fair enough. Division of labor, and all that.

Here’s her door.

Her tv has doors! They’re open here, showing her Christmas Kermit and a nutcracker I bought her this year. She has a HUGE nutcracker she puts out on Christmas at her house, but I thought the little one would be better, considering all the equipment she has rolling around.

#3 Daughter bought her a wee Christmas tree, and I decorated it. She likes the lights to twinkle. You can’t see it, but I even gave her my hand-made Christmas pickle.

Back before she got shaky, she used to do stained glass work. Here’s one of her projects, currently on top of her tv cabinet.

That wasn’t a kit. She bought sheets of colored glass, drew the patterns on them, cut them with a glass cutter, fitted them together, and soldered them. Charlie made wooden stands for each piece.

This isn’t any kind of a door, unless you want to call it a-door-able. A group of middle school kids came around and visited the residents and gave them stuffed animals and Christmas cards.

The inside of the card says, “Ho ho ho! I love you! Merry Christmas!”

And, outside the emergency exit, I spotted this.

In case you can’t tell, Rudolph has antlers sticking up over his front windows. 😀

Oh, by the way, HAPPY MONKEY DAY!!!

This is a good day for you to have that ‘Love’ button. This is all so sweet. We did a lot of things to make my mom feel like her apartment was her home, and she appreciated all of them. It’s a good thing 🙂

I brought her bedside lamp and her teddy bear clock, too, and that picture of four generations of us. I’ll have to share that again on the blog. Maybe Monday. An extra to having brought the stained glass nativity is that she can tell all the aides and nurses that she made it, and they ooh and ahh and make over her. 🙂

You did a great job on her door, Marian, and her stained glass is gorgeous! I did a stained glass piece once in a class, smaller, but done the same way, cutting the pieces, etc. It was a lot of work but came out well. Unfortunately, I never got another one done before the class ended.

I’ve seen some reindeer cars around here, too, this year. I’ve seen the horns before, but the nose seems to be new.

I’m sure that helping to personalize her space makes a big difference. Great job on the door too. I loved this post 🙂

She didn’t want much personal stuff to begin with. It’s a work in progress. 🙂

I’m all weepy! My Mom has been in out and of the hospital for the last couple of months, and each time we thought we’d lose her. It seems she too inherited my Grandmother’s heart condition, but thankfully instead of manifesting itself in her 30’s like it did my Grandmother, and sister it’s hit my Mother in her 70’s. I lost my Grandmother when I was 13 weeks old. Too young to know her, but I’m told she loved me dearly.

I’m chomping at the bit to get out to see my Mom. She’s in FL now, but life here with my kids and Grandson take priority right now, and my Mom is home and doing well. My youngest brother and his family are going to spend Christmas with her, and having all 4 kids and families in tow would be way too much pressure and strain on her, so I’ll go after the Holiday when things are quiet.

I love your Mom’s door, and her stained glass Nativity set! I love Nativity sets. I have 5 of them. I just bought a Peanuts one. Actually I bought two sets. One for #1 Grandson b/c he loves my sets and keeps playing with them; rearranging all the characters around Baby Jesus, and when he spotted the Peanuts Nativity in the store he picked it up and wouldn’t let it go. HOW COULD I SAY NO? I bought two so he could have one at his house and I have one here for him and any future Grandchildren to play with. It’s adorable. I have them all out on display for Christmas. I think my favorite set is the little Tin set I bought in Mexico. I wouldn’t be surprised if one or two more end up in my collection. “)

I’ve had a heart murmur since I was little and lived through Scarlet Fever. I’m hoping I don’t get the heart disease my Grandmother, Mother, and Sister have, but you know…the deck seems stacked against me! I think Scarlet Fever affected my brain more than anything. I can’t do more than basic math or science! I’m sure that’s what did it! 🙂

Oh, the door! I love the wreath! I need a new one. Mine is really old, and showing its age.

What a good idea, to get your grandson his own nativity sets! Our #3 Daughter used to call the Activity Sets. lol!

I think you’re right, that too many people around all at once would be a strain on your mother. People get post-holiday blues and feel lonely after all the intense socializing is over, so she’ll be ripe for a visit later.

Hmmm, can’t do more than basic math or science, eh? I’ll have to ask my mother why she’s been hiding my Scarlet Fever from me all these years. 😉

That’s a sweet little set-up! I really like so many special things hovering around with your mom 🙂 Christmas Kermit is too cute. I may need one. Also, that stained glass is lovely. I have seen it done many times, and I’m always a fan. I like the flocking on the wreath, and tiny tree, too!

Christmas Kermit is a hoot! She always had him sitting on top of the grandfather clock. 🙂

Glad you were able to give your mom a touch of home in her new home. My bother and sister moved my mom to her nursing home a couple of months ago in Hawaii and I’m planning to visit her in a couple of months. Wish her a Merry Christmas including you and yours!
